I started business in 2016 when I started coaching. I wanted to get into work. I have a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Business Administration. I have been National Sales Manager with a lot of responsibility, but I could not find a job because of my caring responsibilities. Too qualified for a routine job but not available enough for my old job. I knew that I had skills & abilities just not the traditional 9 - 5 time that employers expect. I wanted to use my skills and help others so I did a coaching course. It was not until I wrote Grants Made Easy that I realised that women had passion & purpose but were not quite finding a way to Ignite that Passion to Bring their passion to life. So Ignite Your Passion was bornIgnite your passion. The definition of Passion is – its an adjective. having, compelled by, or ruled by intense emotion or strong feeling; fervid: a passionate advocate of socialism. intense or vehement, as emotions or feelings: passionate griefarouse or inflame (an emotion or situation). What does ignite your passion mean to you Christine? How did this idea come to you? From all your discussion with women and talking about what motivated themWhere does passion come from? – subject matter (music, a cause etc) sense of mission, solving a problem, people are a source of passion, linked to purpose,What are some of the advantages of knowing your purpose? It’s a practical application of your passion and values, helps you realise inspirational and meaningful goals, inspires you, provides motivation, gives you a way forward, helps you filter what to say yes to and what to say no to. Unleashes your potential in a meaningful way. What are some of the steps to igniting your passion? – live the feeling of being worthy of happiness and deserving of success, answer the passion question( what would you do if you thought you couldn’t fail), visualise your achievements before you have them (vision board), don’t listen to what other people say, they don’t have your passion, its unique to you, keep an eye on the prise and don’t lose sight of what you want to achieve, hang around with successful people and cute negativity from your life, focus on your strengths and your transferable skills, clarity of purpose, purpose fuels passion. Who do you work with? How do you help? – clarity, make a plan, let go of fearNow lets talk about the 10 week group course you have coming up?Where do people find out about the group?WHO’s it forWhat will you be coaching them on?The course and where to find you and the links to the course?

Jim Weinstein: Charting The Path From Advertising to AdvisingToo many people equate decisiveness with urgency and snap judgments. This often leads to decisions that they quickly regret making. Today’s guest makes the case that the more time you take in making big decisions (within reason, of course), the more perspective you gain and, in turn, the more confident you become when you finally pull the trigger. We address:How can I set principles for myself to abide by when making tough decisions? Why should I let the decision-making process play out as opposed to having a sense of urgency? What can I do to minimize anxiety when making big decisions?Jon welcomes Jim Weinstein, life consultant, career coach, and psychotherapist. Jim goes down memory lane, sharing why he decided to go into the advertising world after graduating with a degree in political science. He then explains his decision to leave advertising to run a clinical trials organization and how that eventually led to his current passion for life coaching.3 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSEDDon’t be locked into a rigid framework for decision-making. Instead, stick to a few key principles that help guide your thought process as you reflect on tough choices. Some simple examples include: Where are you?; What are you happy with?; What are you unhappy with? Aside from taking inventory and thinking through the decision yourself, it also helps to talk to other people who know you well for third-party input. Finally, try “dipping your toe into the water”. Tentatively try out a new path for a visceral reaction to see how you resonate with it.Give your decisions room to breathe. Whatever the principles you decide to abide by, making good decisions comes down to patience and diligence. Never settle for a snap answer or set arbitrary deadlines for making decisions (i.e. decide in the next 30 days) if there is no real reason for a deadline. Take your time and weigh out every factor going into your big decision. You’re only going to make the decision once. The biggest barrier to effective decision-making is anxiety. Many are pressured, unjustifiably, into making big decisions faster than they need to. Even more commonly, a lot of people are afraid that their life will fall apart if they make a wrong decision. A calm, measured approach to making decisions is a great recipe for success. In any case, bad decisions and failures can be great teachers if you allow them to be. They can uncover aspects of yourself that you didn’t even know were there. Embrace failure. Failure isn’t the end of the world.OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODEJim’s decision-making framework [02:49]Two key ingredients to effective decision-making [04:59]Why Jim got into business and advertising after studying political science [06:24]Leaving the advertising business to run a clinical trials organization [08:24]Stepping away from anxiety and couples therapy to becoming a life coach [11:33]Helping coaching clients make life-changing decisions [15:44]The biggest barriers to making good decisions [16:39]Why bad decisions and failure can be great teachers [18:19]How to embrace failure [19:45]Why Jim would not have done anything differently [20:58]The benefits of a calm and curious approach to decision-making [22:18]ABOUT OUR GUESTJim Weinstein is a life consultant, career coach, and psychotherapist. Drayten Howell: How a 23-Year-Old Student Athlete Found Success in the Cannabis IndustryToday’s guest is currently undergoing a journey that is nothing short of amazing. Only in his 20s and coming from a modest background, he was able to carve out a new path for himself in the incredibly competitive cannabis industry—in California, no less. Find out how he navigated the countless challenges involved in starting his business and the decision-making framework he uses to keep himself on course. We address:How can I discover the decision-making constructs that uniquely work for me?What do I need to keep in mind when starting a business in an incredibly competitive industry? Why does “being a consumer of my own business” lead to brand loyalty?Jon welcomes Drayten Howell, the young CEO of Indacut, the first cannabis delivery service licensed through the city of Santa Barbara. He has a fascinating story to share. At the age of 23, Drayten quit college with a full-ride basketball scholarship to start a cannabis business. Needless to say, he has made a number of major life-changing decisions.3 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSEDHave a decision-making framework and set of non-negotiable standards unique to you. There is no one-size-fits-all decision-making framework. Know what works for you, mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually. Drayten abides by three constructs that he goes through before making any big decision: Firstly, Drayten always seeks wise counsel, whether from his mom or grandma, coaches, and other close friends and acquaintances that he trusts. Secondly, as a believer in God, Drayten always prays before making a major decision. Finally, alongside prayer, Drayten meditates on every life-changing decision that comes his way.To build brand loyalty in your business, provide a product at a great price. Many new entrepreneurs tend to forget that they’re making a product for other people, not for themselves. You have to know what you’re providing, and you have to be providing what your target market wants right now. In the cannabis industry at least, Drayten recommends not following trends because “trends are saturated”. If you don’t provide your customers what they want now for the price they’re willing to pay now, they can go right down the street to your competitor.Be a consumer of your own business. Always put yourself in the shoes of your customers (and potential customers). Gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of your business processes by asking yourself whether you would be happy with the products you’re offering and the service that went into it.OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODEDrayten’s decision-making framework [02:35]How Drayten turned his life around created this incredibly unique path for himself [09:19]Applying Drayten’s early, mostly self-taught lessons on business in the real world [12:21]Getting the business underway while going blind [16:00]How Drayten went about attacking his deliverables in the early days of business [20:11]Drayten’s biggest obstacles to getting Indacut up and running [24:12]Building brand loyalty [26:49]The two biggest surprises Drayten has encountered so far and how he addressed them [28:50]Drayten’s plans for the growth of Indacut [30:42]Considering a franchise model in the future [33:28]How Drayten keeps up as the primary decision-maker in his business [34:48]Decisions that Drayten regrets since starting his business[36:50]ABOUT OUR GUESTDrayten began thinking about entering the cannabis industry in 2018 during his summer classes at SBCC. He knew the industry would be growing as the market opened for recreational use. Shortly after summer classes ended, Drayten was on his way north to attend NCAA Division 2...

Show Title - Michelle Adams: Using Core Strengths to Make Better DecisionsHow far can your gut feeling take you when you’re faced with important decisions? Today’s guest makes a case for leaning on your natural strengths and the things that give you energy, and simply taking the plunge when making big, career-defining choices. We address: How can I use my core strengths to inform my decisions? What are some actions steps I can take today to be able to thrive in a post-pandemic world?Where should I focus my attention to avoid making career choices that I may later regret?Jon welcomes Michelle Adams, Founder and President of Marketing Brainology, a company focused on the latest in Behavior Economics, Virtual Shopping, Eye-Tracking, and NeuroScience research. However, that’s just the latest stop on her journey spanning high school teacher and coach to heading up Shopper Marketing at PepsiCo.3 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSEDKnow your towering strengths. Michelle’s decision-making criteria is based heavily on Marcus Buckingham’s StrengthsFinder tool. What are the core strengths that you bring to the table that you are naturally gifted with? Whatever you decide to do must align with those strengths as well as the things that give you energy when you do them.Sometimes, all you can do is take a leap of faith based on calculated risks. Making a decision as life-changing as going into business after a decade or two in the corporate world is grounded in many factors; but more often than not, the choice to make these decisions are ultimately based on faith. This faith is informed by considering all the factors related to the decision at hand, as well as taking your strengths into consideration, trusting yourself to handle wherever direction this decision will take you. When making decisions, it’s really important to have a network surrounding you. If you have a big career goal (or any type of big goal, for that matter), it pays to immerse yourself among people that support those goals. For example, Michelle’s dream is to be able to speak professionally on a regular basis, so she became a very active member of the Dallas chapter of the National Speakers Association.

Show Title: John Bouman: How Faith, Purpose, and a Clear Vision of Success Lead to Better DecisionsThere are few places that require more skill in negotiation and a thicker skin than the political sphere. Today’s guest, a public interest lawyer with over four decades of experience, shares how he makes decisions that affect entire communities—and potentially the entire country—and does so navigating a profession where conflict and adversity among different parties is his day-to-day reality. We address:What is the best way to reach consensus among my peers? How can I get skeptics to embrace my idea? How do I reach people’s hearts and not just their minds when getting my vision heard?Jon and Paul welcome public interest lawyer John Bouman, who speaks on the fundamental role of faith in his decision-making framework, the benefits of engaging in vigorous conversations with colleagues, the importance of starting with the end in mind, and why it pays in the long run to pause and take a step back in the aftermath of failure.3 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSEDAlways be working toward a mission. As opposed to working toward a particular dollar goal or any of the other superficial trappings of success, know what drives you internally and let that purpose motivate your decisions.Make better decisions through vigorous conversations with peers. Part of making good decisions is having the right information to add context to whatever it is you’re addressing. A great way to expand that information base, as well as infuse yourself with confidence when finally making the decision, is to engage in dialogue, especially with those who have a stake in the decision. John says it best: “There’s nothing more enjoyable, rewarding, and conducive to good decisions than a vigorous back-and-forth with colleagues who have permission from each other to put ideas out there and also have them batted down to work toward good decisions.”If you’re trying to get your idea heard, always start with the end in mind. If you have an idea or proposal that requires the support of certain parties to bring it to reality, it’s crucial to have a crystal clear picture in your mind of what success looks like. If you know exactly what outcome you’re going for, you’ll be able to work backwards to figure out how to get there. Even if some of these key people are skeptical of your idea, as long as everyone actually knows what you’re trying to achieve, it’s much easier to define the tactics and strategies you’re proposing to hit that goal. You also have a better chance at inspiring confidence in others when you can clearly explain the rationale behind your decision.

Harry LaRosiliere: How to Use Your Purpose and Passion to Inform Your DecisionsHow can I identify my purpose and passion? Why should I not be afraid of making decisions that I may later regret?Jon and Paul welcome the first African-American mayor of Plano, Texas, Harry LaRosiliere, who shares his guiding principles when making any decision, and his failsafe practice of using his purpose and passion to keep him on the right track as the leader of his community of almost 290,000 residents.3 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSEDHeed the four Ls of leadership when making important decisions. All leaders need to realize that they have to be fully accountable to their people and take responsibility for their actions. To this end, a leader must make sure to LISTEN in order to get the right amount of input from those around them. They must LEARN from their mistakes. Leaders also LEAD BY EXAMPLE, being the first to enter the building and the last to leave. Leaders LET GO and trust their team, giving them the space, they need to succeed. Finally, leaders need to know when to LEAVE, because no matter how successful (or unsuccessful) you become, there is a time to leave your position. Leaders do not build followers. They build other leaders.Heed the three Is when making important decisions. Make your decisions based on purity of INTENT to do the best for your community, out of INTEGRITY or a refusal to compromise your values, and from a place of INTELLIGENCE which comes from doing ample research on the issue you are making a decision on. Adhering to the three Is does not guarantee that you make the right decision, but it does make you comfortable and resolute in your next step.No matter the outcome, remember your purpose and passion. The one thing Mayor LaRosiliere knows is that he wants to do his part to make Plano a better place, day-by-day. Instead of being caught up in sound-bite politicking and making big, sweeping promises (ex. cut taxes, shrink government, etc.), The Mayor prefers to wake up every morning with a focus on making his community a little better by the end of the day. This is how he avoids falling into the pitfalls unique to his life and career and helps him stick to his particular purpose and passion.OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODEMayor LaRosiliere’s five Ls of leadership [04:30]Why Harry started a photography studio after graduating with a geology degree [10:49]Moving to Plano, Texas and becoming a financial advisor [15:06]Harry on discovering his calling to be mayor [20:32]Mayor LaRosiliere’s three Is of sound decision-making [31:40]Does being African-American have an influence over one’s decision-making process? Born in Haiti, Harry moved to New York with his family when he was just three years old and became a U.S. citizen at age 18. He graduated from the City College of New York in 1985 and moved to Plano, Texas in 1994. Driven by a passion for public service, Harry volunteered with various nonprofit groups followed by service on a variety of Plano city boards and commissions before becoming a city council member. He was nominated and elected mayor of Plano, Texas in 2013 and elected for a second term in 2017.

So delighte to have you hear and we have the best topic for todays show!“How Being a Women in Business Can Affect Your Self-Esteem!" Let’s talk about self-esteem but before we do what is self-esteem and how is it different to self-confidence – according to googleThe terms self-confidence and self-esteem are often conflated. Confidence is a measure of faith in one's own abilities; esteem is about our sense of self. It involves both thoughts and emotions and influences how we perceive others and interact with the world. According to Psycholilogy today "Confidence" comes from the Latin fidere, "to trust." To be self-confident is to trust in oneself, and, in particular, in one’s ability or aptitude to engage successfully or at least adequately with the world. A self-confident person is ready to rise to new challenges, seize opportunities, deal with difficult situations, and take responsibility if and when things go awry. "Esteem" is derived from the Latin aestimare, meaning "to appraise, value, rate, weigh, estimate," and self-esteem is our cognitive and, above all, emotional appraisal of our own worth. More than that, it is the matrix through which we think, feel, and act, and reflects and determines our relation to ourselves, to others, and to the world. What does good self-esteem mean to you today and what did it mean to you when you started out?According to Kate Harrison in Forbes, March last year in an article about female entrepreneurs stated “Here is an upsetting fact. Women and men with similar levels of education and experience have drastically different senses of their abilities when it comes to starting a business. In one report, almost two thirds of men were confident in themselves,...

Guest, Andy Murray: Life as a MosaicWhat’s the single most important outcome you’re after, right now? Start there, and as long as you have your end goal clear as day, your path will eventually lead you to where you want to go.We address:How do I build a network that can help me accomplish what I can’t do on my own?How can I hit my career or business goals when the road ahead looks hazy? How is it possible to keep my eyes fixed on a better future while staying fully present to tackle the tasks at hand?Jon and Paul welcome retail marketing expert Andy Murray to speak on growing your business and career, maximizing your leadership potential, and cultivating culture.3 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSEDHaving a strong peer-and-above network can take your career to new heights. Your network is everything. Build, nurture, and strengthen a network of mentors and other professionals who have all achieved success in their own right and from whom you can glean wisdom towards accomplishing your own goals.Look at the trajectory of your life as a mosaic. When considering your goals and your unique path towards those goals, imagine life as a mosaic. Start in the center and establish the pieces which represent your clearly-defined core values. Everything at the peripherals may be hazy, but each piece you place carries on from the last until the full picture that is your life is completed. You don’t need to be at full-throttle throughout your entire career. No matter how ambitious you are or how many professional goalposts you intend to hit, it may serve you well to slow down a few times in your career to recuperate, recharge, and reflect. We tend to get so focused on the future—that next big task, that next big meeting, that next big pitch—that we live in the day after tomorrow instead of today.

RoxcelJohn created a strategy for Roxcel Asia transferring responsibility for regional leadership from Europe to Asia. Over three years John negotiated with, and fostered the development of trust among, the relevant parties, including Nestle Purina as the end-user. These stakeholders were located across three States in the US, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.NorcrossPrior to joining Roxcel John instigated a significant change management process at Norcross Press which re-positioned the company as a market innovator but more importantly implemented John’s theory of goal alignment matching as closely as possible the attainment of individual employees goals to the goals of the company.
