Though God had made it clear that marriage was to be exclusively between one man and one woman, Solomon had allowed his own lust and selfish desires to lead his heart away from God. He began worshiping the false gods of his pagan wives. It was a low point in Israel's history and a reminder to us that we must deal with the things that could lead to "heart failure" in our own lives before we would turn away from God.
