Some people struggle with an incorrect view of God - that He is too far away; that He wants us to take a few steps in His direction and then He will meet us in the middle. But actually, the Bible teaches that God is near to us and He has taken all the steps in our direction. Covenant is about God pursuing US! All He wants of us is faith to trust Him.
