Presenters: Macarena and Stijn Topic: Alcohol In this show, adult English language students in GO1 class talk about alcohol. Macarena, from Argentina, and Stijn, from the Netherlands, host the show. They chose the topic, prepared the questions, introduce the show and interview their classmates. As a class, we had watched a BBC Horizon Science documentary "Is Ecstasy worse than Alcohol?", with expert testimony from scientists charged by the UK government to evaluate the relative harmfulness of the most commonly used drugs in the UK. This podcast is an extension of the discussion following that. Before listening to the interviews, please note that some of what you will hear is clearly intended to be "tongue-in-cheek" (ironic). We hear interviews with: Isabela (Brazil) Yana (Russia) Isidora (Chile) Dimitri (Belgium) Quinten (the Netherlands) Elizaveta (Russia) Gabriela (Venezuela/Spain) Interview questions (If you are listening in class, you could ask a partner the interview questions, then choose one or more of the speakers and note their answers.) 1. Do you like alcohol? 2. When did you start drinking? 3. How often do you drink? 4. Which is your favourite drink? 5. How many drinks does it take to get you drunk? 6. Have you ever vomited from alcohol? Why? 7. From what age is it legal in your country to drink? 8. Do your parents drink? 9. Do they allow you to drink? 10. Do you have bad hangovers? 11. How often do you go to the club? 12. What do you think about clubbing in oxford? 13. What do you think about binge drinking? 14. Do you know that alcohol is worse then marihuana for you? What do you think about that? 15. Alcohol causes serious brain and liver damage, what do you think about that? 16. Can you have a good night clubbing without alcohol? 17. Have you ever had bad experiences with alcohol? This show was recorded in class, on group teacher, Geoff's, Apple MacBook Pro computer with the GarageBand app and a Samson Meteor Mic microphone. The GarageBand jingle used is Electric Rodeo. After editing in GarageBand and Audacity (for noise removal and deletion of unnecessary silence), the file was converted to MP3 format. The photo was edited in Pixelmator. This show was produced at the Bardwell Road Adult Centre, St Clare's, Oxford, UK.
