Starlight Thursdays Episode 240 featuring J Michael Kober and an inside look behind his amazing sets.
This mix is very indicative of what you’d hear me play out live. I like to start with some very accessible and groovy House music to get the dancefloor warmed up. I then build up the energy with some Tech House to get things a little dirtier before transitioning into some harder mainfloor Techno to finish out the set. Typical “take the audience on a journey” approach but my hope is that it keeps the crowd engaged and prevents my set from becoming too repetitive. I like this approach because it lets me play a little bit of everything from the subgenres I like and I put a lot of thought into building the setlist and finding those good transition tracks. I also don’t want to be too locked into a rigid setlist so I have plenty of other tunes on standby so I can react on the fly to whatever vibe I’m getting from the crowd. My favorite thing, the main reason why I love DJing, is when I’m listening to new music, hearing something that really catches my ear and gets me thinking “I can’t wait to see what happens when I play this out!” Then anticipating the upcoming show, dropping that track at the right moment of the night, and seeing everybody go mental… never gets old!
