This Frederick, MD based artist shut it DOWN at the end of 2019 by supplying the artwork for one of the biggest hip-hop drops of last year - Roc Marciano’s “Marcielago.” Unbeknownst to us - it just so happened we were coordinating this very interview while Bernard was toiling away on the blaxploitation-inspired visual! We kick things off by hearing about how he connected with Roc for “Marcielago” - let’s just say it wasn’t the first time they’ve worked together - how he turned it so quickly (3 days!) and why it was subsequently drawn & constructed differently. We also hear about how a quick series of bicycle-themed illustrations led him to connect with Westside Gunn and lay the early groundwork for his most important contribution to the culture to date - the artwork for the 2017’s “WestsideDoom” - the Westside & MF Doom collaboration.
