As long as you are somebody you are dealing with finite energy. Tuning into higher energy is not possible if ego is present. The secret to tuning into higher energy is that you get it all when there is no "you" to experience it. Ram Dass uses Maharaji as an example of a being who becomes pure energy and because energy is what underlies universal matter, he is in a position to reorganize the matter according to his will.
