With all the hype and publicity surrounding the George Zimmerman trial and its aftermath, another huge Florida case was playing out, with a very different outcome. Marissa Alexander, a young single mother, was assaulted by her husband in 2010. Marissa had a legally registered handgun, and she fired a single bullet into the wall near the ceiling to scare off her attacker. Instead, she got arrested, tried, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Friends, supporters are still working to see justice served for Marissa. Join us as we speak with Rita Henley Jensen, founder of Women’s e-News, and former senior writer for the National Law Journal and New York Times journalist, to talk about Marissa’s situation, the story behind her sentencing, and what’s happening now.
