MEN OF THE MOVEMENT Are men afraid of feminists? What is the “man box?” Do “real men” work for gender equality? These are just some of the issues we’ll talk about Saturday when Rob Okun joins us Saturday. His new book, “ Voice Male,” looks at men’s experiences with feminism, manliness, fathering, growing up male, and the history of men’s involvement in the profeminist movement. Subtitled The Untold Story of the Profeminist Men’s Movement, the book brings readers inside “one of the most important social justice movements you’ve never heard of”—the social transformation of masculinities. Okun is Editor of Voice Male magazine and former executive director of the Men’s Resource Center for Change, one of the oldest men’s centers in North America. His essays have appeared in newspapers, magazines and websites including Ms., Women’s eNews, Alternet, MenEngage and Vday. Rob led batterer intervention groups for many years and is psychotherapist practicing in Amherst, Massachusetts. He is co-chair of the board of the Men’s Resource Center for Change, and serves on the board of directors of the New England Center for Women in Transition, an agency serving survivors of sexual and domestic violence. Join us Saturday as we talk men, men, men. Share your comments and stories with us, and let others know about this controversial show.
