DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SEXUAL ASSAULT, NATIVE AMERICANS AND SOVEREIGN RIGHTS According to the Dept. of Justice, Native American women have higher rates of domestic violence, coupled with low income rates, higher rates of sexual assault, and the list goes on and on. So what can we learn, how can we fight, and what are we doing about native populations and assault? During this month of focusing awareness on domestic violence, let’s add some special lighting to cultures that are facing special battles in the attempt to educate and eliminate violence against women. Special guest Lynda Smallenberger, Executive Director of Kene Me-Wu Family Healing Center, Inc., (KMWFHC) will join us. She worked in Indian Country for over twenty five years in Tribal gaming and social services, has substance abuse counseling and skills in working with violence against women specializing in working with tribal women as they change their lives. She is on the California Domestic Violence Advisory Council, (DVAC) and works with the Judicial Council of California Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) on the Violence Against Women Educational Program.
