WEST MEETS EAST IN PSYCHOLOGY CARE Depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, fertility issues…all call for a certain drugs and treatments, right? Well, not necessarily. Although most practitioners use traditional methods to treat such problems, some are venturing into adding to the usual methods by including alternative treatments like acupuncture, homeopathy, craniosacral therapy, Chinese medicine and others in the mix when it comes to treating a variety of not only physical issues, but also psychological ones. Dr. Paula King, a general clinical psychologist, works with an organization called Healing Horizons to treat all sorts of conditions with a broad mix of traditional and alternative methods. Her background includes a doctorate in Psychology and Adult Education from Arizona State University, coaching certification from the Hudson Institute, certification as an interactive imagery guide from the Academy for Guided Imagery, a bachelor’s degree in physical education, over 25 years’ experience in a general psychology practice and 10 years as a performance specialist working with professional and amateur athletes. In addition, Dr. King authored “A Trust Walk: Mindful Golf”, and her articles have often appeared in The Arizona Republic and a variety of national magazines.
