Today’s question is “Do creativity and confidence always go hand in hand? ” and I’m in conversation with Lucy Sicks. Lucy, is CEO and Founder of LIFEbeat an organisation which builds creative programme communities to nurture the wellbeing of young people. She previously enjoyed a full career in the arts, where in her final role as Director of The London Contemporary Art Fair for 5 years, she developed her leadership skills at the cutting edge of a lively visual arts sector, deepening her belief in the vital importance of creativity and culture. In 1997 Lucy changed her professional pathway, trained and qualified as a psychotherapist with an active interest in transpersonal models and experience working with adults and families in different settings. Her experience of working as an intern within American treatment settings, exploring creative experiential group interventions, deepened her passion for viewing the arts and creativity as essential healing components in therapeutic interventions. In 2008 Lucy co-founded LIFEbeat with Charlie Murphy, a singer/songwriter from the US and youth worker, keen to introduce his American summer camp model to the UK. Since then, over 12 years, Lucy has developed the LIFEbeat model and programmes, built and nurtured a community network of creative facilitators, volunteers, youth alumni and partner organisations in the UK. Combining creativity, the arts and the healing power of diverse groups, LIFEbeat creates a sense of belonging where young people feel seen, heard and valued unconditionally. Guided by adults who are alive to their own creativity and purpose, young people are supported to explore and express themselves and equally to celebrate and connect with others in the wider community. LIFEbeat also delivers trainings for teachers, youth workers, professionals and volunteers in arts based practices and creative group facilitation to enliven learning and community in their settings.
