This episode was extremely difficult for me (Erica), and has come out far later than I'd hoped. Last month, a high school down the street from me, Saugus High School, suffered a terrible shooting and inflicted trauma upon many, many individuals and families. Please know: We are here for you. We read and respond to every message we receive on Facebook and Instagram, or email me at: [email protected] As I edited this podcast, I kept finding myself thinking of friends and family I know who went to Saugus High School (my in-laws were actually in Saugus's first graduating class). My husband and I know people whose children were there at the school on this horrific day--since recording this episode we've heard stories and our hearts have broken for them. Something like this inflicts trauma, not just upon the victims, but upon countless people around the event. And in the case of a school shooting, many of those most traumatized are young. Promptly dealing with trauma is an important step in the healing process. It can help keeping anxiety from gaining a foothold in your life or the lives of your children. I hope, more than anything, that this conversation can help bring about healing--not just for those traumatized by November's shooting, but by any of you dealing with trauma of any kind. As always, remember that... You are NOT alone. You are NOT broken. You are on your way to a life FREE of anxiety!
