In this episode, I speak with my dear friend Karen Guggenheim, a woman who embodies unwavering resilience and passion for making the world a happier place. Karen is the Founder and CEO of WOHASU (World Happiness Summit), an organization and annual summit that unites leaders, economists, academics, entrepreneurs, and the public to bring forth positive change based on the data-driven science of happiness. I've attended and spoken at the summit each year since 2017, and it is an incredibly special experience. Unfortunately, the 2020 edition of WOHASU was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, just six days before the event date. You can imagine the business and logistical disaster that resulted. Still, Karen weathered it with her wonderful team and has come out of the other side with a smile on her face. Karen and I share the same mission of spreading happiness. We also share the experience of profound loss, as Karen lost her husband to illness years ago. Naturally, I feel a deep connection with her and have enormous respect for her decision to take control of her grief and channel it into a force for good. Listen as we discuss: Coping with tragedy and loss Dealing with the panic of pandemic The brilliant trick of scheduling time for your anxiety The undeniable truth that it is always in our power to react to hardship in a way that grows us rather than destroys us This episode is part of our Silver Linings theme.
