Episode 1000 - Jimmy and Joe Nerd Chat!
Nov 20 2019 67 mins
For anniversary episodes, normally there is a live recording at a bar with special guests, songs, comedy bits and more. This time for the epic 1000th episode, and due to busy schedules and time of year, Jimmy and Producer Joe decided to just go back to their roots and record the podcast together. While not in the same physical place to record, they did it over the internet and just did what they love to do. Chat nerdy things! They discuss the beginnings of the podcast, how the industry has changed since they started back in 2005, fave picks over the years and more. Tune in to hear them wax nostalgic and raise a glass to their 1000th episode! Leave your iTunes comments. 5 stars and nothing but love! Also, get a hold of us! Thanks for listening! =============================== A Note From Jimmy: Our first episode went up in April 2005 and we've been going strong ever since. I travel to conventions all over and have made friends for life. I get to interview people that I admire (and am a fan of their work) and sometimes we even become friends! I've interviewed more than your fair share of celebrities which is super fun and exciting. And teen Jimmy would never believe I'd meet and interview the likes of George Takei, D.M.C. and Stan Lee to name a few. However, I prefer chatting with cartoonists about their work most of the time. I've read tens of thousands of pages of comics, seen thousands of hours of TV/film. A lot of it I may not have checked out if it wasn't for doing the podcast. Since leaving my acting career in 2000, I hadn't really done much artistically. A brief flirtation with doing sketch comedy in 2005 for about a year. But the podcast has been my artistic output for years now. Sure we often just talk about comics, TV and film...but I also write/sing silly songs and do comedy sketches on it as well. Because of the podcast, I was able to call myself a comic book writer! Albeit only a few stories in an anthology (Fat Chunk Volume 2: Zombies! from SLG Publishing) from years back but still pretty cool. And I've appeared in quite a few of your favorite comic books as well thanks to friends whom have written/drawn me in. Thanks to you all! Comic News Insider changed my life for the better. The friends and connections I've made over the years are so memorable. I count people from all over the world as close pals and that's because of CNI. I sincerely hope we've brought people some joy with the podcast. Whether it's listening to an interview of a favorite or liking our reviews or news. I've only wanted to entertain and spread the gospel of comic books to the world! I'm not sure how many more years this will go on, but I hope you keep listening until then. Nerdily yours, Jimmy

Episode 956 - Top Shelf Productions Top 3 Special!
Jul 15 2019 17 mins
Jimmy recently read 3 new graphic novels from one of his favorite comics publishers, Top Shelf Productions. They Called Us Enemy by George Takei with co-writers Justin Eisinger and Steven Scott and art by Harmony Becker is a stunning tale of Takei's life in the Japanese intermment camps as a child during World War 2. Takei walks us through his parents' struggle to keep their heads up, his innocence during that time and what he learned after growing up. It's a tale that will not leave you. Highwayman by Koren Shadmi is a futuristic story of a man on a journey trying to find out his purpose in life. In his travels and over the years, he runs across what becomes a barren landscape and very few people. But, he may find some just like him and he has to decide if that's good or bad. Sometimes, you may not always want to know your real story. And finally, Penny Nichols by MK Reed and Greg Means with art by Matt Wiegle is a super fun tale of a woman finding what she wants to do in life. Stuck in job after dull job, Penny just wants to find something meaningful to do. When she stumbles across these amateur horror filmmakers, she thinks she may have found her calling. That is, if she can get through all the fake blood and cheesy scripts. Check out the episode to hear Jimmy's thoughts on all 3 of these great graphic novels! Kudos to Top Shelf Productions for consistently putting out such great content like this! After listening, you'll soon be wanting to read all 3. Leave your iTunes comments! 5 stars and nothing but love! Also, get a hold of us! Thanks for listening!

Aug 13 2014 51 mins
Reviews: Genius #1, Howtoons (Re)Ignition #1, Usagi Yojimbo Senso #1 Jimmy planned on having the podcast wife Erica on to co-host but due to a work commitment (on his part) he had to go solo. Next week there shall be a co-host! He discusses the demise of The Podcast Arena at New York Comic Con this year and mourns/gives tribute to one of his idols Robin Williams. Jimmy sat in the roundtables for the hit BBC America show Orphan Black and chatted with stars and producers Tatiana Maslany, Jordan Gavaris, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Ari Millen, Dylan Bruce, Kristian Bruun, Graeme Manson, and John Fawcet. The roundtables were brief as they had to rush off to their panel but we got some good questions in. Apologies for the annoying/unprofessional reporter from HGTV whom manipulated the tables with her inane questions and often interrupted talent to chat with them. Besides that, and while brief, we still managed to get some exciting news about the upcoming season! Jimmy also chatted with amazing cartoonist Gene Luen Yang about his new graphic novel The Shadow Hero and some of his awesome past comic work. News includes: a new Batman comic called Gotham by Midnight coming from Ray Fawkes/Ben Templesmith, Disney theme parks will add more Star Wars and Kyle Maclachlan joins Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
