TBRCP100 - GO2 students talk about music
Dec 14 2009
100th EPISODE ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION!!! Presenters: Dohwan and Tai-Chang Topic: Music In this show, adult English language students in GO2 class talk about music. Tai, from Taiwan, and Dohwan, from South Korea, chose the topic, prepared the questions, introduce the show and interview their classmates. This was a surprisingly controversial episode, with a wide range of attitudes towards musicians and the culture of popular music. Dohwan and Tai's plan was to get some people to sing on the show, but all the guests were too clever for them, and managed to avoid embarrassment! Dohwan and Tai prepared a special surprise guest interview, which is tacked on to the end of the show. And we hear Dohwan doing a sound-check in Korean…! We hear interviews with: Al-Jazi (Qatar) Olivia (Belgium) Yao (China) Khalid (Saudi Arabia) Coco (France) Interview questions (If you are listening in class, you could ask a partner the interview questions, then choose one or more of the speakers and note their answers.) 1. Do you like music? (Why?) 2. What kind of music do you like? (Why?) 3. Some people think classical music is boring. What do you think? 4. Who is your favourite singer or group? (Why?) 5. Could you recommend an album or a song? 6. What do you think about UK singers or groups, for example, U2, Queen or the Beatles? 7. When do you usually listen to music? 8. Can you play an instrument? (If no, which instrument do you want to learn?) 9. When you were a child, did you want to be a singer or musician? Would you let your child be a musician? 10. Have been to any concerts? How did you feel? Please listen to our interviews and add your comments on our blog page at bardwellroad.podomatic.com. This show was recorded in class, on group teacher, Geoff's, Apple MacBook Pro computer with the program Garageband. The Garageband jingle chosen by the presenters is "Carousel". After editing in Garageband and Audacity (for noise removal and deletion of unnecessary silence), the audio volume was leveled using the program Levelator (www.gigavox.com/levelator), and the file was converted to MP3 format using Switch Audio File Converter (http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html). The photo was edited in Apple iPhoto and Pixelmator. This show was produced at the Bardwell Road Adult Centre, St Clare's, Oxford, UK. A big thank you to all the students, teachers and other guests over the years who have contributed to the show!
