EP231:Top 7 Business Lessons from 2019
Dec 24 2019 35 mins
Let Go of Stories that Hold You Back Sometimes you hold on to stories about the world and your place in it that hold you back from our true potential. Those stories will keep limiting you until you acknowledge them and do the work to clear them. Negative mantras that drag you down, like, “There isn’t enough money to go around.” can be reframed in the positive: “There is enough money to go around.” The first step is to identify YOUR limiting beliefs and stories. What it will take to clear them? Take Full Responsibility for Your Success Have you ever caught yourself playing the “Blame Game?” I know I have. Tsk tsk tsk. It’s easy to blame others for your problems and avoid taking responsibility, but it’s neither realistic nor productive. As a jewelry-preneur and creative visionary, you are responsible for your own success. Own it. And when those sweet moments of success do come, they’ll be even better! Always Operate from a Growth Mindset At times, it can be a challenge to stay positive and operate from a growth mindset, rather than a scarcity mindset. But when you do it, it pays off. Every. Single. Time. Don’t expect miracles to happen when you haven’t done the work. Take action. Implement what you learn. The miracles will come. If you nurture a mindset that is open to new opportunities, you will start to notice them all around you. It’s like magic. That’s all I can say for now. To hear the rest of the 7 lessons from 2019, listen to the full episode above. I’m wishing you restful holidays, m’dear!

EP229: How to Know When It's Time to Do the Work to Ask for Help
Dec 10 2019 42 mins
1) You Feel Overly Defensive of Your Biz Someone asks a critical question about your business or offers constructive feedback, and you immediately snap into defense mode. That’s a red flag. As the creative visionary, you may be too close to your biz to see some of the big-picture problems. I get it, you’re passionate about what you do. That passion is what fuels your success, but it can also get in the way of growth if you let it. If you find yourself feeling overly defensive of your business decisions, that’s usually the first sign it’s time to get some outside perspective on things. 2) You’re Operating from a Scarcity Mindset You feel stressed because there’s not enough money to go around, not enough room in the marketplace for your work, etc. It’s not true. Repeat after me, and believe it: money is limitless, sales are limitless, your opportunities for growth are limitless. It’s only a matter of getting your head in the right space and putting in the work. The best cure for a scarcity mindset is to reach out to a supportive community of like-minded artists who can help you shift your thinking. 3) Your Actions and Goals are Misaligned You are setting ambitious goals but not making a plan or implementing the actions that will allow you to follow through. Here’s the unfortunate truth: sometimes the person you are today is not going to the person you want to be in the future. Recognizing this forces you to reflect on your own approach to business. This is where a coach or mentor can really help you out. If you’re feeling a little called out right now, don’t be too hard on yourself! This is the first step of tapping into your potential for growth. Listen to the rest of the podcast, where I talk about the actions you can take once you’ve identified that it’s time to ask for help. Until next week, m’dear! xo, Tracy Sponsor Spotlight! EP226: The Desired Brand Effect – Here's How to Use It In Your Business
Nov 19 2019 34 mins
Authentic Connection I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - faceless brands are dying. As sales move to the online sphere, social media is shaping buying decisions more than ever. People buy from people. At the end of the day, sales is about building relationships with your customers. Gone are the days of target demographics. In an oversaturated online market, it’s all about dialing into the specifics of your Dream Client and standing out in a sea of faceless brands. The connections you make - through messaging, branding, pricing, customer service, web copy - are what set you apart from the crowd. Connected Conversion As a jewelry designer, you may feel afraid to sell. It’s okay to admit it; I was too, in the beginning. It took years of flexing my confidence muscle to feel comfortable converting a prospect into a buyer. Even if you’ve built an authentic connection with your Dream Clients, the sales won’t be rolling in if you’re sitting behind your bench all day. It takes consistent outreach and excellent customer service to maintain a steady flow of sales. If you’re not getting enough sales, you’re probably not doing the right outreach. Removal to Scale You probably want freedom and security in your business, right? The key is to build a business that is not dependent on you for profit. This is where the big-picture stuff comes in. Systems and automation that free up time and allow you to step back, and long-term planning that can be broken down into bite-sized goals. Above all, this also includes your community. Whether it be hiring the right people, seeking mentorship, or just connecting with fellow designers - the people around you can make or break your business. I’ve only grazed the surface of these 3 pillars. If you’re ready to dive deeper into these concepts, listen to the full episode of Thrive by Design. Or, even better, pre-order The Desired Brand Effect! Until next week, m’dear! xo, Tracy Sponsor Spotlight! Are you ready to learn how to implement these practices in your business? My new book, The Desired Brand Effect, is full of resources, case studies, and exercises that are designed to help YOU build the business of your dreams. Whether you’re just starting out, in the middle of growing, or totally successful but ready for more, this book is a resource you’ll be able to reference back to over and over again. Sound good? Let’s do this! Save some $$$ by getting on the waitlist today!

Make sure your friends and family know about the event. Posting on your personal Facebook can get friends and family engaged. Best of Series EP224:The Epic Black Friday Online Promotion Strategy that Brought in $8200 in 4 Days
Nov 05 2019 46 mins
I’m often asked: what does it really take for an emerging jewelry brand | designer | maker to successfully sell jewelry online? It requires 4 things: Strategy Resourcefulness Creativity A Can Do Attitude Here’s why: There’s a lot of strategy “conversion nuance” involved in getting customers to actually buy from your jewelry website or online channels. Because of that, you’ve gotta be creative in your approach to selling online, take action to implement your ideas, and resourceful, especially when, things don’t go your way!. Typically, designers try something once and think: ‘that doesn’t work for me!” Instead, they should be thinking: “how can I tweak my strategy to make this work for me?” So, when I hear people out there saying, “I sell jewelry online” – I’m ready to show them how it’s done… and proof that with the right strategy and actions, you can sell WAY more than your dinky holiday shows…. (I’m not dissing shows…they’re good too! 😂) Enter Jeana and Jared Rushton of the TheFoxandStone.com. The millenial power couple 💃🏻🕺 (giggles) just absolutely crushed their Black Friday Weekend promotion for the first time and they’re here to tell us how. But first, let me set the stage. In previous years, Jared and Jeana banked on Etsy sales and live events for a large portion of their Holiday Jewelry Sales. When a fluke occurrence happened early in 2017 and they got a flood of orders from Etsy, they knew they needed to do “something” to fill in the income gaps between months (sometimes upwards of $10K). At the time, they were members of the Diamond Insiders Mentorship program and Jared quit his full-time job to support Jeana in the business. Knowing they could use some outside eyes on their biz, they joined our SOS coaching program and leaned on several of our coaches to help them fill in those gaps this year. In previous years, they rarely paid attention to Black Friday, BUT they were dropped from their “Best Show” in Seattle so they had to find another way to fill that income gap. They worked with many of our coaches, including our planning master, Inta, to map out this kick-butt strategy… And, M’Dear, I hope you’re inspired to put some of these ideas into action! Enjoy our Best of Series EP224:The Epic Black Friday Online Promotion Strategy that Brought in $8200 in 4 Days…

Best of Series EP87: How to Build an Email List for Your Jewelry E-Commerce Business
Aug 20 2019 35 mins
Ever wonder how you’re supposed to convert people who land on your website into actual paying customers? There’s so much talk about getting more website traffic, but there’s a big piece missing in this convo! Most people who land on your website aren’t just going to immediately buy from you! EP213: Want to Make $100K Salary as a Jewelry Designer? Here's what it takes...
Aug 06 2019 38 mins
For most designers, making a $100,000 salary is what it will take for you to quit your job or achieve your goals. I hear it all the time. “Tracy, I want to make $100,000 a year. What does it really take?” The truth is, it’s… complicated. Someone who is bringing $1 million in revenue still might not be able to take home $100,000 if their business isn't run like a well-oiled machine. At the same time, a smart business owner bringing in $250,000 could still take home that $100K if they do it right. People like you and I, we’re idea generators. Seeing our visions come to life is what really drives us. Finances, profitability, break-even points, margins… Those aren’t the things that come naturally to us. But it can be learned! You don’t have to sacrifice your creative passion to be a smart business owner. When you really hone your visionary and leadership skills, you will be blown away by what you can accomplish. When I started my first company, Tracy Matthews Design Inc., I was NOT approaching my business like a visionary. That’s totally changed. Instead of CEO, I call myself the Chief Visionary Officer. That has a better ring to it, don’t you think? So how did I go from being a hopeful hobbyist with no business experience to the CVO of Flourish and Thrive Academy? It started with a simple goal to transform my jewelry business so I could take home $100,000 a year. Let’s talk about it…

EP209: How to Find the Courage to Face Your Fears and Create a Life You Love with Ruth Soukup
Jul 09 2019 44 mins
I’m beyond stoked about this week’s topic because it's something the Flourish & Thrive Academy community knows all about… FEAR. Being an entrepreneur by definition pretty much means facing your fears… Putting yourself out there Taking risks Doing things that make you nervous It's all part of this wild ride we’ve chosen as business owners. We know it can be tough, but we also know it's soooo worth it! The thing about fear is that it has multiple layers… At its core, fear is designed to protect us. To keep us safe. But because our innate desire to protect ourselves is so strong, it can end up backfiring and leading to things like procrastination, overwhelm, excuses + self-doubt. We’re all working on mastering that fine line between pushing our edges and playing it smart. And on this week’s podcast, I had the honor of talking to New York Times bestselling author, Ruth Soukup about her incredible journey of overcoming fear and using it to fuel her success. Ruth’s book, Do It Scared is a guide to understanding what’s really behind the fear that’s holding you back – and transforming that fear into power and action! In the episode, she takes us through the 7 types of fear, what’s really behind them, and what we can do to overcome and create a life we really love. Ruth’s story is truly inspiring and you won’t want to miss what she has to say! Listen to episode #209 of Thrive by Design to get your all-access pass to How to Find the Courage to Face Your Fears and Create a Life You Love with Ruth Soukup.

EP203: What YOU Need to Know in 2019 About the Current Wholesale Climate
May 28 2019 34 mins
This week is Robin’s birthday! I’m so excited to be chatting with her about the rapidly changing world of wholesale… Robin is our go-to girl in this department… She’s our wholesale and sales expert. And in the 7 years since we started Flourish & Thrive Academy, this part of our industry has been changing nonstop… But lucky for us, Robin is up on all of these changes… So whether you’re about to dive into wholesale for the first time or you’re navigating the ins and outs of consignment or sell and return – we’ve got you! These days, it can feel like the financial pressure is 100% on designers. Especially in wholesale. It may have you wondering… Is wholesale even worth it anymore? Can you really survive and make a good living with this model? The fact is, it's totally possible! But only if you’re staying on top of what’s working TODAY. In this week’s podcast episode, we’re covering everything you need to know to stay relevant in wholesale. In order to succeed in wholesale, you have to build great relationships with your buyers… Relationations are truly at the core of any working wholesale model. You want to make things easy for the people you work with… This can mean providing them high-quality images that make promoting your work simple. It can mean checking in regularly or scheduling annual visits to each of your buyers. It can even start as early as simply following and engaging with your dream stores on Instagram. The more you build relationships and connections, the more success you’ll have with wholesale.

EP202: How to Lean into Your Creative Brilliance to Build a Better Business
May 21 2019 51 mins
The amazing thing about designers is we’re each so unique… It's so cool how you don’t have to be a certain way to succeed in this industry. As I’ve really gotten to know my own gifts and talents, I’ve realized something… I’m pretty much TERRIBLE at 90% of the things you need to do in business. But the other 10% I’m totally brilliant at! And that’s okay… because I can get support in the areas where I need it. And when I stay in my zone of brilliance, I’m going to do more than anyone else could in those areas. The same goes for you. You’re going to have even more success when you figure out your particular brand of brilliance… and stop trying to be good at everything. I’m talking finding that special sparkle only YOU have. Once you figure out what that is – you can leverage it. And when you leverage it, suddenly business is going to totally change for you. Things will get easier. Decisions will come more naturally. You’ll feel more turned on in and by your work. But what if you don’t know what it is?!?!?! Well, I have some good news for you. If you head over to FlourishThriveAcademy.com/brilliance you can take our Jewelry Brand Brilliance Factor Quiz. It takes literally less than a minute. Do it now before you keep reading or before you listen to this week’s episode! Because the content and tips we have for you today are going to be 10 times more powerful when you know your brilliance factor. Today we’re going to be talking about how you can use that special gift to your advantage. So you can stop fighting your natural tendencies in business and learn to use them… and then get the right support built up around you! There's this myth about the “starving artist syndrome,”… And I don't believe artists should be starving! They just need to tweak the way they think about their creativity and lean into that to build better businesses. Creativity is the number one most important thing you have to help make you money in your business! We are so gifted as creative thinkers… As I’ve been investigating and learning through helping others grow their businesses, I’ve discovered that there are basically 6 types of creative zones of brilliance. The really cool thing is that this goes beyond just jewelry design… Even if you’re a fashion or accessories designer… heck, even if you’re making dog treats – this is going to apply to you! So be sure to hop on over to FlourishThriveAcademy.com/brilliance to take the quiz, and then listen to this week’s podcast so you can learn the best tools to take full advantage of your gifts.

EP201: How to Launch One of a Kind Collections and Sell Out in Less than a Month
May 14 2019 34 mins
When you’re running a jewelry business, sometimes you might forget why you started what you do… Running a business takes work. Persistence. Consistency. Strategy. But at the end of the day – most of us are actually artists! We get into this work to CREATE. And while it's important to get those systems down that help you thrive… there’s also nothing wrong with a craving for VARIETY! I’m so excited to be interviewing Alex Camacho of Acid Queen Jewelry because she’s got this balance down… Alex has truly mastered the launch & release strategy. So much so that she’s releasing a one of a kind collection MONTHLY… And selling them out! This is so cool because it means she gets to constantly be creating. Each month she’s making one of a kind pieces. And she’s created a strong following around it! Sure, she has her ready-to-wear line that’s always for sale. She’s got something consistent and easy when she’s in a pinch. But she’s also managed to systematize variety and creativity. So if you worry that success in your brand means you have to sell the same boring line, you’re wrong. In today’s episode, Alex is going to share with us how to create and sell out one time collections. Alex has truly trained her customers to buy from her in the way she wants them to… Granted, Alex says she works really fast. Not every designer is going to need (or want) to put out a collection monthly. But even if this is 2 or 4 times a year, her model is really working for getting these collections to sell FAST. Listen to the episode to get the full scoop on how Alex runs her unique business model.

EP200: The BEST in Show Celebration
May 07 2019 32 mins
Wow! I seriously can’t believe this week was episode #200 of the Thrive by Design Podcast! I started this show because I wanted to serve the jewelry community in a bigger way. This work means the world to me… Back in the 90’s when I was starting out, there wasn’t anything like this! We didn’t have free content. Heck, I don’t even think I had an email address yet! That’s why I’m so passionate about this work… I love serving this community. Helping YOU reach big numbers. Helping you grow your business. And how cool that we now have this platform to share information through! Although I’ve watched the industry change at a crazy pace, I’ve also realized… Many of the issues we were having back then (pre-internet), are the same ones we have now! They come down to the fact that we’re visionaries. We’re creatives. We’re literally artists. So even when the market changes, a lot of those struggles stay the same. So this week on the podcast we’re going back through all of the favorite episodes from the last few years. I’m going to recap some of the ones YOU, our listeners loved the most. And I’m going to share my personal favorites as well. So we can bring together the best of all this amazing content we have right at our fingertips. The bottom line is – we’re in this business because we love it! It's not all about money. It's about having a business we truly love… But in order to be happy with our business, we also need to earn! We’re going for that consistent income. For living a truly abundant life. And in order to get there, it takes work! It takes systems… We have to improve our hiring processes to really attract A-players… We have to learn to outsource and delegate so we can focus on our art… We have to think through our scalability… We need CONSISTENT high-earning months… And this applies at every level of the game. I loved talking to Melissa Spencer of Spencer Fine Jewelry about this. She’s in our SOS program and she told me, she used to think it was just for beginners! She already had a super successful business but SOS has helped her get those systems down. And it's helped her grow to the next level. So this really applies to all of us – beginner or seasoned vet. Now let’s talk about a few of those favorite episodes that are packed full of this valuable content.

EP199: How to Get Big Exposure with Alternative Media Opportunities with Laura Powers
Apr 30 2019 40 mins
Pssst! There isn’t a “holy grail” to gaining big exposure. It’s gonna take some TRIAL and ERROR. After a lot of years as an entrepreneur, I’ve learned a few things about content… What works, what doesn’t, and the best ways to get noticed. Ironically, one of my biggest lessons was that there’s no “holy grail” to getting your content seen. It’s more like a little of this, a little of that… and a LOT of trial and error. There are seriously ENDLESS things you can try… Mastering hashtags… Creating quality video production… Learning social media algorithms… Storytelling through emails…. Paid and organic marketing strategies… The list goes ON! I’m here to empower you to start thinking about exposure for your brand… The end game is to for that exposure to convert people and get them engaging with your content! It’s time to take more unique approaches to digital marketing. On this week’s podcast, I’m talking to one of the most unique Creatives I’ve connected with through Instagram. Meet Laura Powers: a premiere LA psychic, actress, model, producer, host, writer, singer and speaker. Laura hosts podcasts on design, music, the entertainment industry, writing, health, spirituality, business, AND empowerment! Talk about well rounded! And she’s been using her platforms to not only scale her businesses – but to expose her brand in super creative ways. Laura opened my eyes to some amazing ways to have your brand and your message seen, felt and heard! Listen to episode #199 of Thrive by Design to get your all-access pass to How to Get Big Exposure with Alternative Media Opportunities with Laura Powers.

EP198: How to Protect Your Intellectual Property with a Manufacturer with Emma Grogory Boudah
Apr 23 2019 42 mins
Finally! The weather is warm and days are getting longer. A perfect time to look forward to GROWTH in your business. Springtime is all about new possibilities, right? Time to get your spring hustle on! As designers and business owners, it's super easy to get stuck in the day-to-day… Making more product… Responding to customer messages… Managing the books… Posting on social media… Just one big laundry list of stuff! The thing is, not one of these tasks is really gonna lead you to EARNING $$ at the next level. Or scaling your business. It's time to ask yourself – are you using these assignments as an excuse to keep playing it small? If you want to take a leap this year and see big results, you have to make a change. You have to stop doing everything yourself. You have to outsource and delegate. You might outsource social media or marketing but it could also mean… It's time to start working with a manufacturer! I know what you’re thinking, “But that’s scary! What if they rip me off for my designs?” I get this question all the time. And that’s why this week’s podcast is totally on point… I’m PUMPED to have the amazing Emma Gregory Boudah of Spokes Jewelry as my guest this week. We’re talking about manufacturing overseas – how to protect your intellectual property and do things right from the start. If you’ve been keeping your production in-house in order to minimize mistakes and keep a close watch on your designs, I get it. But at some point this becomes inefficient. Both in terms of time and cost. What will you do when… a big buyer wants to know your plan for scalability? you start losing customers because of slow turn around times? your small time jeweler can’t make what you’re asking for? Together, we’re going to help you identify when you’re ready to work with a manufacturer and how to avoid getting ripped off once you do. Listen to episode #198 of Thrive by Design to get your all-access pass to Protecting Your Intellectual Property with a Manufacturer with Emma Gregory Boudah.

EP197: The Simple Way to Bring Cash into Your Biz Fast
Apr 16 2019 23 mins
Does talking about making money in your biz make you squirm a little bit? It's super hard when you pour yourself into your biz but aren’t making any money. It feels like no matter how amazing your work is, you’re “not good enough.” I’ve been there, I know… I have this crazy idea: I want to dust off the old stigma around being a “starving artist” and reframe it to be the “thriving artist” – or jewelry designer! Whatever your creative passion is, YOU CAN make money doing what you love! I’m extroverted so I love to chat and connect with my customers. But really anyone can attract more money to their biz. Don’t believe me?? A few weeks ago in San Francisco, we invited our SOS members to a 2-day workshop – which was SO. MUCH. FUN! During the workshop, I challenged the designers to personally text, email, DM or call at least one customer and make a sale. Not everyone was game at first… Some designers felt awkward or shy. Others didn’t know who to reach out to or didn’t want to bug people. BUT, in the end, they totally showed up and came through with HUGE wins. In just one hour, the designers sitting in that room (there were about 25) brought in over $17,000! Shut-the-front-door, AMIRIGHT?! So amazing! And the sales didn’t stop there… By the next day, the total had reached $35,000! So what if you sent a text, DM or follow-up email asking if a customer would like to check out a piece they commented on? Or suggest a gift for a loved one? Or show them something new you’re working on? Or just asked if they needed help? What if YOU started that conversation? All I’m sayin’ is to show up for your customers in a way that actually helps them. On the podcast today, I talk all about the “dirty” making money in your jewelry biz and it’s called the 75% Rule.

EP193: The BEST Sales Strategy That Attracts Repeat Sales
Mar 19 2019 32 mins
Do you have 1000 True Fans? Trust me, it’s A-OK if you don’t. But are you ready to have 1000 people eager, willing and ready to support your business this year? I learned this philosophy from Kevin Kelly and wholeheartedly believe that it’s the best sales strategy to attract those repeat buyers. If you can get X number of people buying from you every single year… Then you can get a rough estimate of how much revenue you'll make a year! Simple enough, right? Let me explain… Sometimes we feel a bit technologically challenged. Or we don't understand the innovation that is happening in marketing now. So we stick to our old ways and that’s exactly what hurts business in the long run. At one point, I couldn’t keep up with the times. I was being more reactive and less proactive about my sales strategies and how I handled customers on a grand scale. I was losing weight, hair falling out, you name it, I experienced it. I was sad and frustrated all of the time! And until I lost my first business, I didn’t understand the importance of training customers to buy and how to get repeat sales FOREVER. That’s also when I built my Sales Success Model — it covers a couple of basic philosophies in the jewelry business and in growing business in general. Why complicate things? My model is straightforward and simple. Are you ready to learn how to keep clients coming back? For good? Listen to episode #193 The BEST Sales Strategy That Attracts Repeat Sales & Buyers

EP192: The Best in Content Marketing Strategy from Traffic & Conversion 2019
Mar 12 2019 37 mins
Traffic + Conversion = my 2 favorite words right now. Seriously! Can you name a better feeling than having your voice reach millions of fans? I know that there are people in the jewelry biz struggling to get their content consumed by the people actually BUYING their products. Which is why it’s becoming sooo important to diversify our revenue streams. Especially for those of you who are selling to stores and at live events. You have to have inventory for the shows, you have to show up, set the booth up, stand outside in sideways rain or blazing hot weather or something in between and go, go, go. All your weekends are given to the shows. At a certain point, it's exciting because that's how you're building your business… But eventually it gets… Exhausting. That’s exactly why it’s so important to be able to diversify your strategy so that you're leveraging the tools that you have and you're training your customers to actually buy from you online. Building a biz is a full time job. I’m constantly learning more and more content marketing strategies from the master, Ezra Firestone. And many of these strategies are really great for training your customers to buy from you online. I’ve also learned from Brendon Burchard how to secure recurring revenue and repeat customers — something Ezra Firestone talks about as well. Which is why I’m always reminding folks that your website really is your BIGGEST tool. That’s where all of the traffic and conversion magic happens. For those of you who are selling wholesale, selling direct to consumer, or for just about any business model if you're doing custom work or working with a production line. It will work for any strategy; it's just about tweaking it to match your business model! And it’s so much easier than you think. I’m dishing ALL of the secrets. EP190: 4 Things Standing in the Way of Reaching Your Money Goals in the next 90 days
Feb 26 2019 47 mins
Meet Anna Shilina — she’ll help you make more money! At the end of the day we're all responsible for our own businesses, right? And if you're not showing up for your business then you could be making excuses about why things aren't happening. That’s when we have to take a look at ourselves, my friends! Anna Shilina is an abundance coach that is ready to help you make more money. She helps people remove money blocks and gets them to the space where they're really thinking strategically about what they're doing. “We work on mindset, we work on the way you approach things, we work on really focusing on productivity and being in that space of your highest self so that you can get the most out of your efforts, the most out of your business, the most out of your growth.” And she’s determined that we can all reach our biggest goals in 90 days (or less)! The best time to start your goals was two months ago… But the second best time to start your goals is today — as in right now! U.S government employees just recently experienced a shut down on their money for about a month! One of our SOS members said it was beyond stressful because people weren't getting paid at all. People get paralyzed when something like that happens, so instead of making that time useful, they start freaking out. With the fact that a regular source of income isn't coming in, I’d start to panic too. But our member did something powerfully different. She used that time to almost replace her six-figure a year of salary. Anna has a few powerful tools to help you reach your money goals this year and years to come!

EP189: How to Avoid Burnout
Feb 19 2019 34 mins
Big goals + Big responsibilities = Burnout? It doesn't have to! Are you tired? Like really tired? If you tell yourself “I’m busy but I’ve got this” then keep reading. I sat down with Nina Cooper, founder of Nina Designs, on our show after reflecting on the last time I felt completely and utterly burned out. I took a sabbatical last year for 6 weeks and went to Europe just for the mental break that I needed to rejigger and recharge. And if I’d taken better care of myself, I might not have needed to do that. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great 6 weeks… But how why I arrived at taking it was NOT healthy. Let me ask… are YOU remembering to reset and recharge? You can still continue growing your jewelry biz. But what if Nina and I showed you how you can do both? We’re all capable of managing our time, energy, and stress. In our latest podcast, Nina and I share loads of tips to recenter yourself among all of your creative chaos. And we both agreed one of the greatest challenges of chasing a goal out of your comfort zone is getting there without burning out. Good news… we’re gonna give you one less thing to worry about today! Here are a few of tips for being the boss you want to be without depleting your energy. I totally wish I talked to Nina before I burned out last year… A lot of the advice I got was to “slow down and take it easy”. Which, when you’re as passionate about your biz as I am, really isn’t helpful. I learned how to treat myself better so my productivity doesn’t tank. Shoutout to Nina for helping me out with that! EP188: How to Protect Yourself From Health Hazards in Your Jewelry Studio
Feb 12 2019 38 mins
Is your studio healthy or hazardous? Here’s how to create the jewelry you love while keeping your health in check. Yep, I get it! You LOVE making jewelry. But did you know this creative career could potentially be one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet? Your subjecting yourself to chemicals on a daily basis…how do you know if your studio is safe!?! I know I didn’t. I remember having a Shingles scare because of a rash that broke out while moving chemicals around my studio here in NYC several years ago. One of our SOS coaches, Sarah McAleer, overcame a bought with Sepsis that was brought on by poor ventilation in her studio. How much are we risking as jewelry makers? Today, we’re talking about best practices to have an eco-friendly jewelry studio and take control of your health and safety. I invited Christine Dhein on the show to talk about how to protect ourselves from the inherent hazards that come along with being a jeweler and working on the bench. You don’t have to give up the creative career you love to stay healthy. You just need to follow some best practices for a healthy, eco-studio. Christine is an author, a jeweler and a grant-winning educator… She is the founder of Green Jewelry News, the author of “The Eco-Jewelry Handbook.” Let’s get your studio in tip top shape on today’s show! EP187: Visionary Series: Tips to Creatively Solve Problems in Your Business
Feb 05 2019 31 mins
Have you heard the saying: Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems? It’s the idea that your problems don’t go away when you have more money (or your business grows). In business terms: Mo’ Money, Different Problems. When my first company was growing, I used to throw money at problems. Uhh…bad idea. All that did was make me broke because the money I was spending was NOT an investment in the growth of the company. Trying to scale a business during an economic downturn with -$2.02 in the bank was interesting…but it was a gift. You know what happened? I was forced to be creative. Creative with cash flow. Creative with strategy. Creative with my time. Using my creativity to problem solve, got me exposure on shows like American Idol, got me out of a pickle with QVC, and helped me land some of my biggest accounts, like the Sundance Catalog. When you’re cash flow and resources are tight, you gotta be scrappy. And that’s where creativity comes in. Your creativity is NOT just something you use to make beautiful jewelry. Your creativity your biggest asset to grow your business. And since you’re always going to have business problems, it’s time to tap into your innate creative genius to solve them when they come up. It starts with today’s episode on the Thrive by Design Podcast (it’s part of the visionary series I’m doing over at Creatives Rule the World): #187 Visionary Series: Tips to Creatively Solve Problems in Your Business. Listen to today’s episode here…

EP184: The Truth About Why Most Jewelry Businesses are Broke (and What to Do About It)
Jan 15 2019 26 mins
Do you ever feel stressed about money in your business? 💳 No matter how hard you try to make sales and keep the cash flow coming in, you can’t seem to keep the money in your account or even pay yourself? Trust me, I hear ya! There was a time when I had a measly -$2.02 in my bank account. (Yes negative). And payroll was due the next day. Talk about being stressed…my hair started falling out and I was losing tons of weight. I’m ashamed to admit this, but I even started smoking cigs like a chimney. Gross! Until I realized there was a better way to run the business…
The truth is most start-up jewelry businesses are broke for a few simple reasons (at least the ones that don’t “get it” yet). First and foremost, they treat their jewelry business like a hobby instead of like a real business. A business is a for-profit entity that pays its owner a salary. A hobby is not something that’s typically profitable or paying its owner anything. Let me highlight the difference…. A business owner invests in the people and programs that actually grow their business (themselves, team, consultants, coaches, etc.) They get excited about reading a business book and putting 10% of their profit into a savings account. A hobbyist spends all of their money on supplies, gems, and widgets that consume cash flow making them broke. They get excited about the next gem or bead show and want to cry when they leave the Tucson with exactly $5 left in their bank account. Who will you be: profitable business owner or expensive hobbyist!?! Allow me to help you shift your business paradigm and build a more profitable business. There’s no shame if you aren’t there yet. Awareness is the first step! In fact, I’m hosting a brand new masterclass to help you stand out in a saturated jewelry market (so you can kiss 💋 “being broke,” goodbye). Let’s dive into today’s episode #184: The Truth About Why Most Jewelry Businesses are Broke (and What to Do About It)

EP183: How to Simplify Your Business to Make More Money This Year
Jan 08 2019 34 mins
What’s your word of the year? My word of the year for 2019 is ELEVATE! Last year, my word of the year was SIMPLIFY here’s why… Have you ever felt that making money is hard because there are so many things you have to do to make your business work? …no shame in honesty here because I’m 🙋🏻‍♀raising my hand, too. Here’s an interesting idea… What if simplifying your business was actually the EXACT thing that would make you more money this year. I don’t know about you, but as a highly creative being, I have a tendency to make my business complicated. It was driving me crazy! Maybe it’s because I’m a Visionary and I know that Visionaries get paid for their ideas. More ideas, more offers, more money, right? What if it the exact opposite was true? That simplifying your business was actually the quickest road to growing your sales and enjoying your life more? I hope you have really big goals this year and you’re facing your fears to make your goals happen. One of my mentors, Ryan Levesque, said to me several years ago that “more is just more,” instead we should be focused on…. Less But Better! That shift was huge for me! I have so many ideas! It’s hard to know which are the best ones to move forward without driving my team absolutely bat s#!t 🦇💩crazy. Today, I want to walk you through the Framework I’ve been refining to simplify all of my businesses. This Framework has helped me evaluate what’s really important, increase my revenue and sales and make my life easier. You’ll also hear some inspiring stories of designers we’ve worked with. They started out by taking our Laying the Foundation Course and have built 6 to multiple 6 figure businesses. I’m excited for you to dive into EP183: How to Simplify Your Business to Make More Money This Year.

EP182: How to Face Fear to Grow Your Business FAST This Year
Jan 01 2019 48 mins
Happy New Year #ThriveTribe… Last week, I wrote about 5 words to live by (and tools to set the precedent for your New Year) because, well, it’s the New Year! Time for some massive change! Which leads me to a kinda personal question…because it’s time to Sage that S#!zz and clear space for an awesome year ahead. Ready? Have you ever felt completely paralyzed about achieving your business or life goals? Or creating what you REALLY want in life? So logically you make excuses about why now is NOT the time. Or I’m not ready for XYZ. Or better yet, I don’t deserve to have what I want. Or my fave, Artists don’t make money. Even though you need to make changes, you hold your face in your hands and cry out loud saying “Why Me!” (Hey, this is a judgment-free zone here – I get stuck in the same BS all the time.) Without going deep into the reasons why this happens to all of us, the root of the problem starts with the “F” word. FEAR! Fear is the thing that derails you when you self-sabotage, fall short of your goals, don’t go after what you REALLY want or stay stuck feeling overwhelmed. I know what it feels like to fall short and let fear RULE you instead of letting fear FUEL you…and that’s why today’s episode is so important. I asked my friend, Rhonda Britten to come onto the show today to talk about her stretch, risk or die framework to use FEAR as FUEL to reach your goals and grow your business fast this year. Listen in now to EP182: How to Face Fear to Grow Your Business FAST This Year!

EP178: The Epic Online Promotion Strategy that Brought in $8200 in 4 Days
Dec 04 2018 39 mins
I’m often asked: what does it really take for an emerging jewelry brand | designer | maker to successfully sell jewelry online? It requires 4 things: • Strategy • Resourcefulness • Creativity • A Can Do Attitude Here’s why: There’s a lot of strategy “conversion nuance” involved in getting customers to actually buy from your jewelry website or online channels. Listen to Episode #178: The Epic Online Promotion Strategy that Brought in $8200 in 4 Days ….and get resourceful yourself…
