Old Gods of Appalachia

Oct 22 2020 20 mins 7.2k

In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the oldest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-anthology podcast set in the shadows of an Alternate Appalachia, a place where digging too deep into the mines was just the first mistake.

Only a few episodes in and the consistently spooky and well delivered stories are rich and pull you in

I'm a huge consumer of horror (especially love cosmic horror), myths and folk lore, I have listened to a ridiculous bunch of fiction podcast, and this one is probably the best one I've ever encountered. I'm very picky with narration and whether the story holds throughout, and OGOA just keeps getting better and better. The first 2 seasons of TANIS and archive 81 is probably the only two things I could compare this mythical diamond to. Fuck, it's amazing.

Something ancient, powerful, and sulfurous stirs deep within Earth's oldest mountains. Come on family, Join our humble narrator and the rest of us around the campfire for storytelling at it's best, during it's darkest. You will be on the edge of your seat to learn more about what lies beneath.

I started this podcast the day before yesterday and I am hooked. I just finished episode 7, which is so brilliantly written and so disturbing. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I just wish that the episodes were longer. I mostly listen to them during my 30 minute commute, but I have to wait until I'm stopped to play another one and that doesn't happen for a long stretch. I came across this right after deciding that I was going to stop listening to horror so often. Didn't last long.

Absolutely amazing. You won't find another that can hold a candle to this one - the narration, the story, the sound design, all come together in perfection. If you want a story that goes right to your bones, you're in the right place. It just gets better every time you hear it. Even the intro/outro music is satisfying. This is a deep, dark woods horror that is like no other. Just love it.

Absolutely fantastic! The perfect amount of scary, folksy, and backwoods. As an Appalachian born witch, I approve!

Absolutely phenomenal story telling, perfect balance of creepy and engrossing, I find myself turning my phone to silent so nothing interrupts the story! I'm so glad I found this and get to become part of the family.

Old God's of Appalachia provides a unique and consistent setting for lovecraftian horror. It doesn't lean on the tropes of the genre and cuts its own path. Excellent audio quality and editing. Great use of music and sound effects. Extremely enjoyable.
