Well Hello Toowoomba, In EP 26, we talk with a new, old business started here in town by a farming family wanting to do something different. Now you may know of the old Payne's Meats store, well this is their new venture, The Paddock. They have been trading in their new premises now for a few weeks, so we had to catch up with Ted Ellison and find out how it is all going. Well it has been a very long week, as you know I participated in last Monday's sleep out for Base Services, homeless for a week challenge, and I am so happy to report we have raised $7,780 for Base Services. To everybody who donated thank-you so much, I really appreciate the gesture of support. I would like to specially mention The Bus Queensland Long Distance Division who offered up a massive $7500 for the cause. They are a great part of the Toowoomba Community linking Brisbane and Toowoomba with Charleville, Roma, Cunnamulla, Mt Isa and Townsville, with both passenger and freight services. It is going to make a huge difference, and help keep the Base Soup Kitchen operating and helping those who need it here in our Toowoomba community, so thankyou again for all your support for this great cause. Well Hello Toowoomba, Welcome to this a new week and month' June already! , we have been lucky enough to record a couple of interviews in person, with all the safety precautions and social distancing in place, of course. So our life at least is beginning to return to some normality. Hope you are all staying safe and, if you have school age kids, I hope last week's return to school helped you to regain some of your sanity. This week is a very different week, we have Mayor Paul Antonio on for the first time, and we do a conversational piece with a local self employed death doula. Now we all know that death can sometimes be a difficult subject, but I sat down with Tracey Roberts from The Last Leaf End of Life Doula for a candid chat about what she does and how it helps people deal with death So lets get on with the show. In News of the Week Toowoomba Regional Council off-leash areas are open again. The council customers service centres are set for a staged reopening, hear more from the Mayor in the next segment. Council meetings are now being livestreamed on the TRC website or Youtube. We can now add polystyrene to the list of items that residents and commercial operators could recycle for free at the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility. Council have recently bought a machine that uses heat and pressure to compress expanded polystyrene into 'bricks' that are sold for use in flooring, cladding and other applications. "This is a great re-use of polystyrene. with significant space saved in our landfill. Now lets stay with the council theme and chat with the Mayor. Well Hello Toowoomba, and it so great to report for the first time in a long while we escaped the bunker to meet and plan our next season with our great mate Tamara from Two Cents Worth. We have a positive vibe show this week, with restrictions slowly being rolled back we are looking to the future. We grabbed a quick chat with Anita from Fitzy's, and unless you have been living under a rock, you would know they have started something amazing just last weekend. Are you one of many who have a new dog whilst in iso?, need some help and guidance, we talk to Sue Bloom from Dogknowledgy, about her training programs that are now up and going again. And for something very different we talk writing and poetry, in our creative corner segment. Now lets get Talkin Toowoomba, with some news of the week. With further easing of restrictions, there is exciting news for some of our smaller cafes and restaurants around town, so support them where you can. Recreational travel is now allowed with a maximum of 150 kms within your region for day trips only. Exciting news for all of us with our iconic parks open again, along with playgrounds, skate parks, outdoor gyms and barbecue areas, in line with the Queensland Government's roadmap, so please stay safe and follow hygiene guidelines, social distancing, and limits to gathering numbers. The councils, "Change project" goes online from Today the 18 of May, "The online Healthy Habits-Keeping Connected program provides a low-cost four-week program that begins with a challenge on Monday 1 June 2020."To get involved in the challenge registrations open from 18 May to 29 May through the CHANGE project website at www.tr.qld.gov.au/change. Toowoomba Regional Council has reopened Cressbrook Dam to the public for recreational purposes after testing showed water met recognised safety standards. Now lets get Talkin Toowoomba, with some news of the week. We spoke of the assistance packages for residents last week, and the grants for sporting and community groups, well here is the updated information on this. The Micro grant applications are now open for all community groups, including sporting organisations, with grants for up to $499. This is going to be done quickly , so you need to get IT done before close of business Friday 15 May, and applications can only be received via email. The applications will be processed within a week of the close ,with the successful applicants starting to receive funding forms by the end of May.
