Jesus is the head of the church. He is the great and good shepherd and the model for all the faithful to follow as our only shepherd. We take full note of Jesus’ often used metaphor of sheep/shepherd as our guide in all church matters. As Shepherd, Jesus modeled the role of ultimate servant to the church. Thus, our church embraces the biblical reality that each member must be a servant to all other members of our local body. However, we also recognize that Jesus, as the head of the church, is the ultimate authority in all church matters and the one to whom all in church governance positions are responsible.
