This week on the podcast I welcome my old friend Scottie Redix. Scottie played drums in The Stryder (he'd later switch to guitar/vocals) as well as Yearly. He's also known for his Cassanova Brown project as well as playing for Teachers. We take a deep dive on his music career specifically drilling down on his time in The Stryder. We'll talk how he met Peter Toh and how they collaborated in a project that would ultimately be Yearly, we talk the end of Yearly with bassist Eben D'Amico's departure to join Saves the Day and how that sets up the formation of The Stryder. We talk about the signing with Equal Vision Records, how that came about, the making of Masquerade in the Key of Crime, working with Brian McTiernan, and specifically how the audio of that record ended up sounding. We'll also talk about John's departure from the band and the addition of Durjiah Lang of Glassjaw fame on the drums which saw Scottie switching to Guitar/Vocals, The making of Jungle City Twitch, the change in sound from Masquerade to Jungle City, troubles with booking shows, troubles with EVR and the ultimate end of the band. This is a conversation you don't want to miss. If you're like me, a fan of The Stryder and wondered what the hell ever happened to these guys, here's your answers. A conversation 17 years in the making!
