In this episode, Anat Shapira hosts Hila Kay and Patricia Ezratty Bailey, for a conversation about dealing with cancer as new (and old) newcomers to Israel, without the ability to rely on language, culture, and even knowledge of the bureaucracy of the medical system in Israel.
That's what Patty says As Patty shared:
I had spent 15 years going back and forth between New York and Tel Aviv before my diagnosis with Stage II, triple positive, invasive ductal carcinoma, so I wasn't a stranger to Israel or its medical system. Even so, nothing could have prepared me for the mental and emotional toll that undergoing treatment far from home would take. Rather than the experience making me feel stronger, the whole process constantly reminded me of my vulnerability and fragility. And all how I was other. I was honored to take part in this podcast, however short my appearance, in the hopes that my struggle might make someone else's experience easier even if it only serves to remind them that they are not alone, no matter how far home may be.

15 שנה לפני האבחון שלי בסרטן השד, חילקתי את זמני הלוך ושוב בין ישראל לניו יורק, כל שמערכת הבריאות לא היתה זרה לי, ועדיין- שום דבר לא יכל להכין אותי למחיר הנפשי והרגשי שיגבה ממני טיפול רחוק מהבית. במקום שהחוויה הזאת תגרום לי להרגיש חזקה, היא הזכירה לי שוב ושוב את הפגיעות והשבריריות שלי, וכיצד אני אחרת.
למרות הופעתי הקצרה, היה לי הכבוד לקחת חלק בפודקאסט הזה, בתקווה כי המאבק שלי עשוי להקל על החוויה של מישהו אחר, גם אם זה רק יזכיר להם שהם לא לבד, לא משנה כמה רחוקים הבית יהיו.
