Today we will speak about copyright.

We will speak about why is so important to credit your Photographer and how to do it. You will see it’s very easy and it makes your Photographer really happy!

Crediting your Photographers and respecting the integrity of their images have important steps. But it’s hard to understand why, when you are not familiar with the industry.

Taking a moment to credit your Photographer will allow the world to see who has created the image, and build a solid foundation of respect between you and the Photographer.

Why?

OUR PHOTOS ARE OUR ARTWORK

If you love your photos enough that you’re posting them to social media, wouldn’t you WANT to share with your friends the person who took them? Wouldn’t you be so stoked for your friends to have rad images as you do? We thought so!

When you put our name in the caption of your photos, you’re telling us: “thank you”. You’re showing us that you LOVE the work we’ve created for you. Making our clients happy is literally everything to us Photographers. It’s why we do what we do.

IT’S JUST A RESPECTFUL THING TO DO

Now another point we want to speak about is the fact that Photographer hates people who will appropriate a photo. Most of the time without even asking anyone. This includes adding a filter, text and cropping. For most people, cropping is not a big deal: you want to focus on one point and sometimes you don’t hesitate to cut half a photo. For Photographer you are destroying his photo and you are making it yours. Photographers are the one who decides who to edit a photo and this includes the frame so if a photo is made the way it is it’s because they want it like that.

In the wedding industry, it’s not rare to see some vendors using a photo from the Photographer (sometimes without to ask which is not respectful at all) and by cropping to focus only on their product… The result is a bad resolution image with a lot of pixels and sometimes even a blurring image as they focus on something not chosen by the Photographer. This is very bad for the reputation and the image of the Photographer. And that’s not enough to just credit the Photographer there. It’s not because you name your Photographer than you can do everything with photos.

As Photographers, we aren’t asking you to sing our praises in a paragraph every time you post our photos. That would be ridiculous and totally not necessary. All we’re asking is that you respect and love our work enough to share it with the world by putting our name in the caption. So simple! Hopefully, after listening to this, you will understand more why crediting and respecting the photo is SO important to us Photographers! Feel free to ask us any questions about that.
