Jen Devlin is just one of many people in Ireland currently suffering without effective access to cannabis to help improve her quality of life. Jen suffers with severe and debilitating pain & stiffness associated with her Fibromyalgia  and also Ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Ankylosing spondylitis is a rare type of arthritis that causes pain and stiffness in your spine. It’s a lifelong condition, usually starts in your lower back. It can spread up to your neck or damage joints in other parts of your body.

Jen has benefited from using cannabis illegally and since cannabis was medicines have been allowed in Ireland through ministerial license Jen has fought to get an exemption but her consultant will not put in an application for her as the hospital the consultant works in has a policy of not prescribing cannabis for patients suffering with pain. Jen informed her specialist that she has been using cannabis illegally and it benefited her but despite this they were still unwilling to apply.

Then on the 16th of April Jen announced she with the Wexford cannabis club would hold a protest in Wexford on 420 to raise awareness of medical cannabis.  Then on the 17th Jen received a knock on the door from 2 plain clothes detectives who “advised” her not to go ahead with the protest or they would fine and/or arrest her for doing so. This intimidation at her home by our gardai left Jen with no choice but to cancel the protest out of FEAR that was spread by our gardai. Gardai should not be terrorizing people in their homes nor should they be calling to the door of activists to advise them against protesting.
