James Brown hat Mitte der 1960er den Funk erfunden und ihn dann bis in die 1970er Jahre perfektioniert. Gleichzeitig war der Godfather des Soul und Funk auch einer der Gründerväter des HipHop. Er hat den Sprechgesang, das Rufen und Antworten und die Reduzierung auf einen Beat in die Popmusik eingeführt. Er ist der meistgesampelte Musiker aller Zeiten. Michael Jackson war er Vorbild. Und er war einer der wichtigsten Stimmen der schwarzen Bürgerrechtsbewegung. Auch wenn seine Texte bald nur noch ein rhythmisches Stöhnen und Grunzen war, konnte Brown auch sozialkritische Texte schreiben. Und er konnte Jazz. Dazu braten wir Blutorangen für einen Fruchtsalat mit Burrata und Nüssen.
