Snowflake’s data warehouse is not built on an existing database or “big data” software platform such as Hadoop. The Snowflake data warehouse uses a new SQL database engine with a unique architecture designed for the cloud. - In September 2020, Snowflake launched the largest technology Initial Public Offering (IPO) in history with its shares going public at $120/share and jumping to $300 on its first day of trading. Snowflake became the largest company to ever double in value on its opening day, reaching a market cap of close to $75 billion. - Salaries in the Big Data arena are high and rising, averaging over $99,000 for data scientists and engineers to directors of analytics at $138,000-150,000.
