December saw the annual Game Awards come and go, except this time totally online due to COVID-19 restrictions. Last of Us – Part 2 completely swept the awards despite many gamers absolutely bombing it in the reviews. Are gaming awards just a self-congratulatory pat on the back by gaming media? Do awards still have a place in the current gaming ecosystem? Do they play any role in what gamers choose to play or have they lost touch with the voice of gamers?
