Yule has its origins in ancient Norse and Germanic pagan celebrations that marked the winter solstice, which marks the shortest day and longest night of the year. The Winter Solstice usually happens around December 21st. The ancient Norse believed that during this time, the sun was reborn, and the days would gradually lengthen. They enjoyed a twelve-day feast that celebrated the return of the sun.
