Today I welcomed Sharon James, a women's circle leader and life coach, to my podcast Fly to Freedom. Sharon works with women who are feeling disconnected or stuck to help them learn to love themselves unconditionally. We had an enlightening conversation about empowering women, the importance of vulnerability, self-compassion, and more.

I asked Sharon about her journey that led her to facilitate women's circles. She shared about leaving her corporate career to empower others' leadership, then being diagnosed with breast cancer which made her re-evaluate her life purpose. This set her on a path of self-healing, eventually discovering the power of gathering women together in circle.

Sharon explained how the patriarchy has historically pitted women against each other, making it difficult to feel safe being authentic around other women. Women's circles aim to undo this conditioning by creating space for women to show up fully as themselves without judgment. I agreed, having struggled with feelings of needing to prove myself and compare myself to other women.

We discussed how women used to cooperate and support each other so much more before patriarchal society turned relationships between women competitive. Sharon contended the patriarchy waged war on women by using our relationships against us to control feminine energy.

I asked Sharon why it's important for women to hold space for one another. She said women's circles teach radical self-responsibility - you can shine without dimming another's light. We learn to meet each other exactly where we are, with compassion, and realise we don't all have to be the same to be in community.

Sharon explained how the structure of her circles creates psychological safety for personal growth. We visit the edge of our comfort zone, learn to embody authenticity, and harness the power of being vulnerable. I agreed, sharing my own journey of disconnection to learning self-compassion. Loving yourself wholly requires accepting all of who you are on the inside and out.

It was an honour to have Sharon on my show. Her wisdom about empowering women through the healing power of circle left me feeling uplifted and hopeful. I'm excited to continue this important work of bringing more self-love into the world, together.
