They say your first job really sets the trajectory for the dentist you will become, so choose carefully and choose wisely.

Over the last few episodes, I’ve been reflecting on my first year working in private practice, sharing my thoughts and the lessons I’ve learned as an associate dentist. Today, I thought it would be a fun idea to flip things around and bring on my boss, Dr Jeffrey Kho, to share his observations on my first year from his perspective as a practice owner and as my mentor and coach.

In this episode, we explore the struggles he faced in his early years as a new graduate in a world before social media. We discuss the importance of mentorship and how to find the right mentor that best suits you. And we dive into the challenges I’ve experienced in my first year that Jeff helped me with including how to work efficiently with my team, handing difficult conversations and running late.

Dr Jeffrey Kho is a multi-practice owner, founder of AHC Dental Education and a Key Opinion Leader in Clear Aligners. Having hired many graduates over the last 18 years as a practice owner, Jeff understands the obstacles new dentists must overcome as they move from dental school to working life, and has a passion for mentoring and guiding graduates to make their transition a seamless one.
