Less than two weeks after the Framers signed the Constitution in 1787, Pennsylvanian Tench Coxe published a series of essays in defense of the new document. The first was aimed at critics of the new office of president. They thought it would create an elected monarchy (they were right) but Coxe thought otherwise.
