In this episode Samantha Ward talks about the welfare and well-being of captive wildlife in zoos. She completed her MSc and PhD in animal behaviour and welfare, and is currently an associate Professor of Zoo Animal Welfare, Nottingham Trent University. Samantha sits as the Welfare Expert advising the UK Government on UK zoo-matters and has been involved with updating the Zoo Licencing legislation in the UK.
We talk about her passion for zoo animals, what is unique to the welfare of zoo animals compared to other groups of animals, the role that research has had on the way we keep zoo animals and why the german zoo in Leipzig is one of her favourite ones.
