Podcast Addict v2025.2

Changelog - February 22, 2025

More customization

Live Captions Per-Podcast Customization
Until now, the Live Captions feature—allowing real-time transcript overlays during playback—was a global setting that applied to all podcasts. With this update, you can now customize this setting on a per-podcast basis.
This is particularly useful for podcasts that use Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) for monetization. In such cases, even if the podcaster provides valid time-coded transcripts, the inserted ads can disrupt the original timestamps, causing the captions to no longer match the spoken audio.
With this new version, you now have the flexibility to disable Live Captions only for specific podcasts where transcript accuracy may be compromised, while keeping them enabled for others.

'Play from Top' Customization by Category
The Play from Top feature controls which episode is played next after the current one finishes. Previously, this was a global setting that applied to all playlists. Now, you can customize this behavior for each category when using the Custom Playlist tab.
By default, when Play from Top is disabled, the app will continue playback with the next episode in the playlist order (i.e., the episode directly below the current one). However, when Play from Top is enabled, the app will always switch to the first episode in the list after the current episode finishes.
With this update, you can now set different Play from Top behaviors for different categories, allowing you to tailor playback for different types of content. For example, you may want educational or storytelling podcasts to always start from the beginning, while keeping other playlists in their default order.

Standalone Episodes Cleanup
Until now, when users played podcast episodes without subscribing to the podcast, these standalone episodes were automatically deleted after playback. With this update, a new setting has been introduced, allowing users to customize how standalone episodes are managed.
Users can now choose whether standalone episodes should be automatically deleted or kept after playback or when they are marked as played. This provides greater flexibility for those who prefer to keep specific episodes for later reference or revisit content without subscribing to the full podcast.
By default, the app will continue to delete standalone episodes after playback, ensuring that temporary listening sessions do not clutter the library. However, users who wish to retain them can now easily adjust this setting based on their preferences.

Minor improvements

  • The total playlist duration can now be accessed from the player screen’s playlist tab via the options menu, allowing users to quickly check the total listening time remaining in their queue.
  • Enhanced support for the Podcasting 2.0 SocialInteract tag, now including compatibility with the Bluesky (atproto) protocol.
  • Improved extraction of virtual podcast file descriptions from metadata, now supporting user-defined metadata tags to ensure better recognition and display of descriptions for manually added audio files.

Bug fixes

  • Implemented a workaround for player notification buttons sometimes appearing in random order on Samsung devices; as a result, rewind and fast forward buttons will always be displayed on Samsung devices.
  • Minor fixes.
