Show Notes:
We talk with actor Tom Morton! Tom shares a scene with Demi More in the Midnight Madness People’s Choice Award-winning film, The Substance. The Substance opens in theatres this Friday, and we chatted about it and more with Tom! Tom Morton is a British, French, and Canadian actor and voice artist, set to appear alongside Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley in Coralie Fargeat’s highly anticipated film, The Substance, premiering exclusively in theatres on September 20, 2024. His first feature film role came in 2008 when Isabelle Mergault cast him in The Merry Widow alongside Michèle Laroque and Jacques Gamblin. In addition to his on-screen work, Tom is an accomplished voice artist across various genres. Most recently, he voiced the security announcements for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Video game enthusiasts will recognize Tom as the voice of nightclub owner Floyd in Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human, as well as for his roles in Humankind, Welcome to ParadiZe, Solasta, Styx: Shards of Darkness, and Bound by Flame.
Our review of The Luckiest Man in America starring Paul Walter Hauser, Shamier Anderson and David Strathairn. This stranger-than-fiction drama resurrects a hugely popular 1980s game show and the “luckiest man in America” who broke it. The Luckiest Man in America illuminates a forgotten turning point in television history; when a network executive took a gamble and inadvertently made an obsessive eccentric into a folk hero. An unemployed ice cream truck driver from Lebanon, Ohio, Michael only made it into auditions for Press Your Luck because he stole someone else’s appointment. The show’s casting director thinks Michael is a creep, but co-creator Bill Carruthers likes his chutzpah and sees him as an everyman the audience can cheer for — the dark horse is in.
We also recap our time at TIFF 24 (Toronto International Film Festival). Andrew and Mr. Green talk movies, movies, and more movies. We’ll also be joined by Petula Neale (In A TIFF, Back Issue Bloodbath) to break down TIFF’24 in its entirety. Which films did we love? Which films disturbed us? What strange films touched us in a good way? Find out as Petula and the boys give their picks for the best of the fest!
It was a great show!
