In the penultimate episode of the Agnes Varda series, THE FEMININE MYSTIQUE, Carter and I discuss her 1977 film, ONE SINGS, THE OTHER DOESN'T. In this episode, we talk about abortion, Agnes' personal history with having an illegal abortion and being one of the 343 women who signed The Manifesto of the 343, which would pave the way for the legalization of abortion in France in 1975. We go over the history of France and abortion along with how the male gaze and female friendships are tackled in this film.
