Inspired by Boundary or a rule [@RaquelMartinPhD] Mind your mental podcast
My understanding of the origins of boundaries is Bowen 1960s Family Systems Theory, and I’ve talked about how to set boundaries on the podcast before, in episode 24 which you can listen to here:

Clear and specific boundaries help us keep a sense of ourselves and connection to others without triangulating ourselves
A boundary guides your behavior; a rule guides someone else's behavior; a threat is when you have the power to guide someone else's behavior out of fear, not out of choice
Boundaries intend to shift your own response to a situation and remind you of your own power
Rules intend to shift others responses and remind them of your authority
Threats intend to shift someone else’s behavior and remind them to fear your power
