A critical antidote to polarization around life and death matters is for Americans to develop three key skills: learning together common facts, listening to each other deeply, and establishing consensus ethical values on saving lives. To do this, we need another central skill of conflict healing rooted in all great global civilizations: self-examination and self-care. We can do this and move beyond polarizing politics.
