Everyone defines an emergency differently but ER staff have to respond every single time with balance and competency - a daunting ask!
Many of us may find ourselves or a loved one needing emergency services. At that time, we are often in a vulnerable space or in crisis and dependent on the individuals who have chosen this unpredictable and often intense & traumatic setting. My guest today is Dr. Jason Milk - he Is the medical director of a Cleveland Clinic emergency department and overseas 6 additional emergency departments including supervision of emergency staff. He provides a window into the challenges of these first responders & provides direction and empathy for those who walk this integral path. Dr. Milk highlights how the controlled chaos of an emergency room is as unique one moment to the next as are the individuals who need these services. Working from a human approach, he speaks on the value of training to find equilibrium, utilizing a team dynamic, changes that impact the care model and how empathy and learning to take a Pause personally and professionally can make the job humbling, rewarding and sustainable.
