Kyler Murray drove the Arizona Cardinals 71 yards on 13 plays to set up a game-winning field goal by Chad Ryland as time expired, spoiling the return of Tua Tagovailoa in a gut-wrenching 28-27 loss that dropped the Dolphins to 2-5.
Tagovailoa looked good in his anxiously-awaited return from a concussion, completing 28 of 38 passes for 234 yards and leading the offense to its highest-scoring output of the season.
Tagovailoa lost a fumble on the opening drive that Miami recovered, and a snap went over his head in the third quarter, resulting in a safety that led to eight unanswered points for the Cardinals that brought them right back into the game.
The Dolphins fumbled four times, losing somehow losing none. Other key mistakes by Miami- including a big drop by Jaylen Waddle- allowed Arizona (4-4) to stick around and eventually get the win.
Ryland’s game-winning kick at the gun was his second in a row, and it came after Murray led two scoring drives in the fourth quarter to rally the Cardinals from a nine-point deficit.
Tia was designated to return on Monday after doctors cleared him to play. He also cleared the concussion protocol Friday.
Miami’s opening drive ended in a 1-yard touchdown run by Raheem Mostert, who also grabbed a 6-yard TD run in the fourth.
Tyreek Hill caught six passes for 72 yards in his first game with at least 70 yards receiving since Week 1.
De’Von Achane rushed for 97 yards on just ten carries and added 50 yards and a receiving touchdown.
Murray completed 26 of 36 passes for 307 yards, with a 6-yard touchdown to Michael Wilson and a 22-yard TD to Marvin Harrison Jr., who caught six passes for 111 yards.
Trey McBride added 124 yards on nine receptions for the Cardinals.
The Dolphins led 13-7 at halftime but their top-ranked pass defense could not stop Murray and Harrison in the second half. Their run defense was great for the most part, shutting down Conner and an AZ rushing attack that had been averaging 5.5 yards per carry to 2.8 ypc.
Dolphins safety Jevon Holland left in the second quarter with a knee injury and did not return.
