Keeping the central nervous system (CNS) in flawless condition is crucial in every sport and in everyday life. This is because CNS is like the king in chess - you must keep it out of check to advance in the game.
The three primary functions of the CNS are to receive sensory information mediated by skeletal muscle fibers and the peripheral nervous system (PNS), to process it, and finally to send out motor signals.
Temporary/controlled PNS and CNS load resulting from well-optimized physical activity is an essential stimulus for the organism to initiate adaptive processes, i.e., anabolism.
However, excessive PNS and CNS stimulation without optimal recovery instead leads to pathology in the process by excessively escalating catabolic processes and hindering growth.
Central Nervous System (CNS) fatigue occurs due to prolonged & continuous stimulation induced by excessive load of physical activity, stress, and inflammation. This phenomenon is initially manifested by a rapid decline in muscle strength, endurance and workout effectiveness (despite recovery between training sessions), and ultimately by more severe physical & mental symptoms, such as hormonal imbalances, disturbances in brain chemicals, insomnia, loss of appetite, lack of motivation, feeling of being sick when not infected, or loss of mental clarity.
