Over the years, I’ve done more than 100 shows across various stations. Yet no matter how many I do or who it’s with, I still get just as excited as I did for my very first desk pop at RTRFM, many moons ago.
Australia takes me back to the first time I locked eyes on the sweet and unassuming Nick Mulvey. My mates and I caught him on tour with Ben Howard, and let’s just say—his musicianship absolutely blew us away. From that moment on, I was a massive fan (even though I’d already been hooked since the early Portico Quartet days).
Fast forward nearly a decade, and there’s Nick standing outside my café, WOM Radio Café Ibiza, asking if he could come in for a bite before we’d even opened. It felt like another one of those serendipitous moments that life throws your way.
I joked that he could have one of my famous burgers on the house—if he played a set for us at WOM. He respectfully declined. Haha.
But a few years and a few more chance encounters later, we were friends—brothers, really—soul-searching through life and riding the waves of the island together. Nick ended up performing a deeply intimate gig at WOM last year, one that’s now etched into the venue’s history. We shared that moment, not just as artist and host, but as friends.
Now, one year on, we’re creating the stage again, this time at a sold-out Teatro Pereyra Ibiza on April 4th, alongside OpenLab Radio, Tintin Chambers, Strictly Poolside, and Antonio Prosper.
Back on the radio today, it’s about celebrating music, life’s wild journey, and the beautiful way moments weave themselves together across time. And above all, it’s about remembering to have fun.
Because if you’re not having fun… what’s the fucking point?
