Since the 16th century, Lady Justice has been depicted wearing a blindfold or has been commonly referred to as being blind. This symbol is meant to represent impartiality. That Justice should be applied to anyone regardless of what they are or appeared to be. Though, maybe the Lady decided to don her obscuring eyewear not to only to be impartial, but because she could no longer bear to see what Justice all too often looked like.
