Greg in Manchester, Tennessee asked: "I'm trying to help someone get their ex off their phone, but every time I reset it, the ex comes back. So I'm trying to figure out what else I can do to keep the ex from logging into the phone and messing with their money actually."
Greg, it would be useful to know what phone youre trying to reset and how.
Without knowing that, the most obvious problem we can think of are restoring from a backup rather than starting 100% fresh, that would likely set accounts back up. For example, if this is an iPhone and youre restoring from iCloud backup then the account will likely always come back.
The other thing to consider is, does the phone matter? Is this account linked at the user account level?
What we mean by that is that maybe Google or Apple have the exs account listed (for example as a family account) not just within the phone but on the account youre using to log in.
If thats whats happening then youd have to log into either a Google or an Apple account and unlink the ex from there.
Keep in mind that if you do that she may lose access to shared resources that were purchased on the exs account. For example, subscriptions, apps, storage, etc.
If youre starting fully fresh and the exs account is still linked then wed look outside the phone and see what the OS manufacturers account is holding, your problem may be there.
