Shawn says he saw Dan Campbell weep after the Commanders mastered the Lions, which didn’t bother ML, who considered cursing them after they messed up his charity hockey game. Marc is appalled.

STRAIGHT DOPE: After overcoming the Lions’ efforts to derail his annual outdoor charity hockey game at Clark Park, the weather joined the conspiracy to ruin ML’s best-laid plans. Luckily, the rain ended and the game went on. To learn more about the game and how you can support kids hit this link.

Our favorite member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is Jake Tafelski, a backup running back at Central Michigan University who entered the transfer portal and made a major upgrade to South Bend. His proud papa zooms in to talk about his son’s amazing journey, what it was like to follow the Irish on their way to the national championship game and to seemingly mention everyone he can think of before ML butts in.

Do college football players still go to class when they’re chasing a championship? Tom Tafelski tackles this question and addresses several other challenges facing college athletes and their families.

ML generously offers to take on the burden of travel and everything else that goes with chasing a championship, but Marc is skeptical that ML’s Michigan State Spartans will help him make good on his offer.

Shawn is frustrated that ML wants to talk college hockey — including a shoutout to the formidable Western Michigan University Broncos — before the talk turns to the Lions.

Don Shula, the winningest coach in NFL history, was the last Lions coordinator to leave for a head coaching job, back in the 1960s. ML, the ultimate authority on all things Lions, asks Marc and Shawn if they can name the last Lions head coach to get another head coaching job after leaving Detroit. They were stumped. Do YOU know the answer?

Shawn says Dan Campbell showed more grit than Marc, who left the Lions game before it was over. Shawn says tears came to Mr. Grit’s eyes as he reflected on what could have been.

Marc and Shawn praise Campbell for taking responsibility for the Lions’ loss, then challenge ML to face the Lions coach. ML says he’s willing to do it, even if he has to take on the Bernsteins, too.

ML was reunited with Christine Beatty at Saunteel Jenkins’ mayoral kickoff last week. But he didn’t get any answer when he asked what role Kwame Kilpatrick’s former chief of staff and lover would play in the Jenkins campaign. Read all about that and ML’s take on some of the grandiose claims being made by mayoral candidates in his latest On Guard column for the Free Press.
