Before we dive in, a quick trigger warning: This content includes discussions of weight loss, health, and fitness. If these subjects are sensitive for you, please feel free to skip this one.
Okay friends, this is a BIG one! If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by diet culture, struggled to balance health with your busy schedule, or just wanted a realistic, sustainable way to feel your best, this episode is for you.
I’m sitting down with my personal health and fitness coach, Kristen Bowlus, to talk about what actually works when it comes to building a healthy lifestyle. Spoiler alert: It’s not about quick fixes, extreme diets, or chasing a number on the scale. Kristen shares her holistic, no-BS approach to movement, nutrition, and mindset – so you can feel strong, energized, and confident in a way that lasts.
We’re covering everything from small, manageable steps you can start today, to the mindset shifts that made the biggest difference in my own five-year journey. Plus, Kristen gets real about the myths in the fitness industry and why loving your body now is just as important as working toward your goals.
So grab a coffee (or your Stanley full of water – Kristen would approve!), and let’s dive in.

My Own Health Journey
Over the past five years, I’ve been working with Kristen to develop healthier habits for a healthier overall lifestyle! It took a lot of coaching from Kristen to undo the mindsets I had around food and working out—especially when it came to the impact that crash diets had on my in the 90’s and early 2000’s. When I shifted my focus from rapid weight loss to steady progress and health improvement, I began to see remarkable results, both physically and mentally.
Top Tips for a Healthier Life
Kristen shares actionable steps for those ready to embark on their wellness journey:
- Movement: Start with small goals, like 6,000 steps per day, and gradually increase. Consistent movement is crucial.
- Home Cooking: Preparing meals at home allows for better control of what goes into your food, promoting healthier eating habits.
- Grocery Shopping: Focus on the perimeter where fresh produce is located, moving inward only as necessary.
- Read Food Labels: Educating yourself on ingredients helps make informed choices.
- Hydration: Aim for at least 80 ounces of water daily to support overall health.
- Strength Training: Essential for bone health and long-term vitality, strength training builds muscle that burns more calories and supports overall function.
Embracing the Process
Kristen highlights the importance of embracing the journey rather than fixating on the destination. Maintaining joy and gratitude for your body, regardless of where you are on your path, enriches the experience and fosters lasting change.
Dispelling Myths in the Fitness Industry
There are so many misleading claims of rapid weight loss. True sustainable health is built over time, by incorporating balanced nutrition and exercise—a perspective that challenges mainstream quick-fix diets that often eliminate essential macronutrients.
If you’re ready to work with Kristen, her programs offer structured support and guidance tailored to your needs!
