• January 10, 1863, The Metropolitan Railway, the world’s oldest underground railway, opened between Paddington and Farringdon, marking the beginning of the London Underground.
• It was 154 years ago today, that John D. Rockefeller incorporates Standard Oil.
• Also today in 1927, Fritz Lang’s futuristic film Metropolis was released in Germany.
• The United States Army Signal Corps successfully conducted Project Diana, bouncing radio waves off the Moon and receiving the reflected signals on this date in 1946
• It was 34 years ago today, that Time Warner was formed by the merger of Time Inc. and Warner Communications

• American computer scientist and academic, Kathryn S. McKinley is 62 today.
