What startled and confused and frustrated the religious caste system of his day was as much his message as it was his intended audience. Jesus makes insiders outsiders, and outsiders insiders. He – the center and the One who holds the universe by his very breath – moves to the margins; and he moves the margins – those who would never think to have a seat at the table – right to the center.
