I was reading Romeo and Juliet's Act 1, Scene 2 with my students and was inspired by a simple soliloquy from a very minor character, a servant. He is portrayed (and referred to as a clown) by Shakespeare as an ignoramus. One of my students said he was stupid, but I had to correct him and discuss the difference between stupidity and ignorance, and why he was kept ignorant on purpose.
