If you think you know Meals on Wheels of RI, give a listen. Meghan Grady (Meg) Executive Director, joins us to provide an update on this valuable service, the brainchild of Joe Brown founded in 1969. The service has grown exponentially since it began, when serving seventeen meals to homebound folks on one route in Providence RI, to over 20 million home delivered meals across the state including Block Island. Meg is never at a loss for words when talking up the program. As part of their 2025 strategic plan, she wants you to know the service is not only limited to 60-year-old (+) homebound individuals. Through a partnership with Women & Infants Hospital, their population now includes pregnant women. The program also serves children on Block Island, folks with chronic disease and even providing food for our companion pets! Another feature for those who are eligible and not homebound, is the Capital City Cafe Program. These culturally responsive lunches are held Monday through Friday at locations throughout the City of Providence. A special (FREE!) Veterans Cafe is held once a month in Woonsocket, Warwick and coming to Providence soon. Listen as Meg gets us excited about celebrating their upcoming 2024 Festival of Meals Gala on November 2nd. She doesn't give away any surprises, however, intrigues us with the unique silent and live auctions, including ""Mystery Menu" restaurant gift card grab. All of these services are donated, and they couldn't be more grateful to their volunteers, for their continued service and success.
