The Kinks were an English rock band formed in 1963, and are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. Their music was known for both its reflection of the British lifestyle and often presented a satirical viewpoint. Their single ‘Sunny Afternoon’ in the summer of 1966 displaced the Beatle‘s ‘Paperback Writer’ on the British pop charts.

The Kinks played their first shows in the U.S. in 1966 as part of a worldwide tour, but poor attendance at some of the concerts, issues between the band, promoters and the music union led to a four year ban of performing state side.

During the life of the band there were many changes in personnel and musical styles, the band eventually disbanded in 1997, but not before they were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame (1990). Sadly Ray Davies did not attend the ceremonies, but the band was represented by original members, Mick Avory and Pete Quaife.

This episode of the countdown pays tribute to The Kinks with some of my favorite Kinks tunes.

10 Ducks On The Wall – Soap Opera 1975, (Proves not every song has to have a deep message, it can just be fun)
9 Dandy - Face to Face 1966, (A hit for Herman’s Hermits in 1966, but it was an original Kinks composition)
8 Misfits – Misfits 1998, (Sometimes everyone feels like they just don’t fit in, but there’s always hope),
7 Wait ‘Till the Summer Comes Along – Well Respected Kink 1966, ( An early Kinks song of nostalgia, a regular theme in Ray’s songs)
6 I’m In Disgrace – Schoolboys In Disgrace 1975, (Ray writes a number of songs with a school boy theme)
5 You Can’t Stop The Music – Soap Opera 1975, (A truth in pop music, the music does last after the artists fade away)
4 Complicated Life – Muswell Hillbillies 1971, (Sometimes life can become very complicated, and you got to slow down)
3 School Days – Schoolboys In Disgrace 1975, ( Who hasn’t had a time taking a nostalgic look back at uncomplicated days of youth)
2 Life Goes On - 1998 Sleepwalker 1998, ( Life’s difficulties are going to come, but life goes on and on and so can you)
1 Celluloid Heroes – Everybody’s In Showbiz 1972, ( A languid look back at old Hollywood and my all-time favorite kinks song)
00 Super Sonic Rocketship - Everybody’s In Showbiz 1972, (Who hasn’t secretly wanted to do this?)

I hope you enjoy these kinky selections.
